    Pros

    Good Discounts on Camera Gear

    Cons

The company is a fish out of water and they're struggling to stay alive. Head office does not have a clue whats going on and there is a massive disconnect between them and the stores. The staff are disillusioned and have lost all faith in the company. People come and go frequently. Your reward for working there a long time is to be told that you're not important to the company.

    I worked at Henry's Cameras

    Pros

Borrow gear on loan out. That's about it.

    Cons

Where do I start.... On a store level - management is manipulative and makes false promises and puts staff against each other to compete for higher numbers - when I worked there Help % needed to meet was 4% when I left 3 years later it was 7-8% - took SPIF away from employees and kept it for themselves. I'm curious if Canon or Nikon or Sony are aware? - used mandated raise by government as a "we are being nice raise, we care about you." - if you do not meet monthly quota you are written up - no family work life balance - it's all numbers, numbers, numbers - management hangs a huge whiteboard in the back room and puts everyone stats up that causes friction between people - uses useless acronyms that no one cares about - trying to restructure repeatedly and failing - clients still contact me through social media for advice because new staff have no idea what they are doing

I have been working at Henry's Cameras full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some cool people. Less and less as the quality of employee gets worse and worse.

    Cons

Where to start. Corporate greed. Petty and stupid management. Embarrassingly incompetent executive team. Complete lack of understanding of their own industry. Company has stolen 10s of thousands from staff. Zero transparency. Blame game. Morale is miserable. Actively seeking new employees who are unaware of how dirty this company is, end up with minimum wage knowledge/commitment. When they took away money earmarked for the staff from the vendors, they tried to pocket it, then they blamed the vendors. Customers are taking notice at the incompetence of most staff. Heavily push warranties that are up to 16 weeks on repair turn-around. Communication is as poor as I've ever seen in any company. When we do have stock, the company can't seem to even get it's stuff together to deliver it on time. Tonnes of dealing with frustrated customers. Cut programs and try to force staff to pick up the pieces for minimum wage. Such as teaching classes. Insane arrogance from upper management, all the while the company is dying. I could fill a novel at the absolute lack of respect this company will have for you. HR will lie and try to manipulate you.

    Pros

the people you work with are phenomenal as they become your family. You get to learn so much about the ins and outs of a camera.

    Cons

If you are a freelance shooter currently, do not apply here as you don't get much free time for your shoots and your drive to continue shooting your personal stuff travels down an incline as you will lose interest. Over the course of working here the commission structure has dropped significantly.

"There are a few really good stores despite the trainwreck that is head office"

I have been working at Henry's Cameras full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

So I'm lucky enough to work at one of the really good stores. We have a solid team and a good store manager. We're one of the few teams that actually works. A lot of other stores have managers that don't know what they're doing and a lot of the employees at other stores are at each other's throats and will steal what little commission is left. The discount is nice though, you get to borrow gear, and if you love all things photography then a camera store can be a fun place to be in.

    Cons

I just read the previous few reviews and everything they said is 100% true. Theirs a massive disconnect and lack of communication between the stores and head office. Head office keeps on coming up with new plans and acronyms to magically save the day. On paper some of these are good ideas but they're just empty promises and fluff words but they don't put any effort in to fix the actual problems. Commission is almost next to nothing. They used to have program where the manufacturer would give Henry's money to give directly to the salesperson as a reward for selling their product.About a year or so ago they got rid of spiff. They basically just lied to us and said that it was because they didn't want us to be biased and to give the customer the best experience possible but that's just not true. First of all, they're still being paid by the manufacturer and just pocketing the money. And even if it was done to remove bias, that still can't explain why they removed it from our extended warranty that they heavily push us to sell. If you can't sell HELP you get written up. If that happens often enough you'll have to find a new place to work. It's a fine plan as far as extended warranties go but not everyone wants to buy an extended warranty. If we really keep pushing then we can take a few extra dollars from the customers in the short term but we'll burn some bridges in the long run. Also we never have anything in stock which is a massive reason why so many customers are finding another place to shop. Many of our departments are also ridiculously understaffed (especially used). A lot of the better employees (and managers) have left because they know that they can find better work for better pay elsewhere. If this keeps going on the only employees left will be the ones who aren't talented enough to work elsewhere.

    I worked at Henry's Cameras part-time

    Pros

Nice discounts, great colleagues and relationship with clients.

    Cons

Above-retail management needs training. Horrible communication between head office and retail, especially HR. If you don't force your clients to purchase the warranty, you will not survive at this job. Henry's LOVES acronyms and has a bag full of them but their core values seem to be a front for their appearance and in reality, they expect you to be a shark and sell, sell, sell - all they really care about are numbers. 'Customer service' is no longer a priority at Henry's. Henry's is still receiving commission from vendors which is suppose to go to the sales associates as part of a commission program that Henry's has stopped over a year ago. Overall, it is a lot of work, stress, and pressure in sales for a small paycheque with no recognition if you wish to move forward in this company.
