I worked at Henry's Cameras full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Loaning out gear, and the discount on SOME products... The team's are usually pretty good as well. I made some good friends while working there

    Cons

They've moved from a dedicated camera store where people can come and get advice/help to a best buy knock off. Hiring management and staff from Best Buy. They force number down your throat and expect you to hit higher and higher budgets while instructing you to harass customers to buy their warranty. Other stores have instructed to just add the warranty and say nothing until asked about it. It's all around a shady operation and theres no wonder this company isn't going to be around within the next 5 years.

I have been working at Henry's Cameras full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There discounts in store are ok but the discounts through EPP's with distributors are amazing. Your coworkers are passionate about photography The in-store team you work with will be like a second family

    Cons

Head office has absolutely no clue what is going on at store level. They expect the world and more from staff however they keep staff at minimum wage and every year there are massive cuts to the compensation for commission. They state in the experience that we offer expert advise however they do not pay staff that way. Vendor's offered spiff - an incentive to sell product, however Henry's pulled that and pocketed the money intended for staff. Head office don't listen to their customers or staff about concerns of stock and product that is carried. Head office makes reckless decisions impacting stores in the busiest of seasons, negating genuine concerns and focusing on smaller problems rather than the ones that impact business flow.

    Pros

    - discount - great co-workers - get to meet cool customers

    Cons

SHADY OWNERS. They not only blamed COVID for their atrocious mismanagement of the companies finances, but they finessed their way out of paying employees who were let go during COVID severance, and paying multiple companies they owed money to. This information is available to the public. They have zero sympathy for royally screwing over other people. I've contacted them multiple times about my severance and they've given me every run around possible, rudeness, and brushed me off. To further back up my point, they also didn't make a single mention of the BLM movement, and one of the higher ups visited the location I worked at and was rude to a homeless person who was minding his own business out front of our shop. They hide comfortably behind the love for Canadian owned businesses, but I recommend you do your own research on this company. From a former employee, DO NOT WORK HERE. The staff in store are lovely people, but the head office/owners are shady capitalists who only care about money and not about photography in the slightest.
