    Small company, great growth

    Pros

Henkaa is a small, but mighty team/company. It is a great place to be able to grow your skill sets and explore career growth - as the company is small, you wear many hats and get to experience opportunities you wouldn't otherwise get at large corporations. I grew from a customer experience associate to the customer experience manager, to a business development manager in short time frame. They are open to listening and inputting feedback/suggestions so you really feel like you're making a difference and helping to shape the company. A truly supportive team.

    Cons

As it is a small company, you will be doing some work outside of your core job description so it could be a bit hard to focus on what is important within your role (if you're not used to multi-tasking), but that's the fun in being a part of a tight-knit team.

    A place to Grow

    Pros

People are very friendly and understandable, the job in general is comfortable. You are mainly in the front desk taking care of costumer service, and have around 5-7 appointments in a busy day. When days are slow there is usually some cool craft projects to do, everyone is very friendly and open to heard from you

    Cons

The big target is bridal, hoping we can get more everyday client.

An Opportunity to Learn and Grow in a Proudly Canadian Company

    Pros

I came to Henkaa as a customer and fell in love with the brand and what it stood for. When I discovered they were hiring I jumped at the chance to work with a company that stood for embracing change that woman go through, (marriage, children, work, life!). Being a part of the team I was quickly welcomed in and they became my second family. The work life balance is exceptional which is something I really value. It i a smaller company so there is lots of room to grow and learn with company. Your input is always valued and you definitely feel like you have the chance to make an impact. Working alongside the founder, I am impressed at how she manages the work/life balance. It is great to see a true Mompreneur in action! As much as you can learn working with her, she is also open to your ideas and values everyone on the team. It is great to work with someone who believes in showcasing her employees and their accomplishments. All the other team members bring something special to the mix. It is great to work in an environment where everyone works together, supports each other and genuinely wants to see each other succeed. It makes going to work fun when you are able to connect with your coworkers on more than just a work level. I also like working at Henkaa because of the products. It's rare to find a great quality product that's been founded in Canada and made in Canada too!

    Cons

Due to the nature of the product (predominantly dresses) it does attract a mainly female demographic. It would be great to see a bit more of a balance with some more males employed to diversify the office.

Great products, great company, great place to work

    Pros

Henkaa has things figured out; the company knows its core values and practices them. It may be a small, young company, but it doesn't stop them from being innovative, flexible, and inspiring. Henkaa requires you to go with the flow and be on top of things. It's a fast-paced environment that's constantly adapting. Management has high expectations, which challenges employees to be their best and think outside of the box. They listen to feedback and work with you to find creative solutions. It's a great place to work if you want to improve yourself and never be bored. Great working environment - flexible hours, strong emphasis on work-life balance, and people who care about you as a person.

    Cons

There are always days when certain things seem like cons instead of pros, but in the big picture, things at Henkaa are good. Recognizing and appreciating their core values is a big part in understanding that overall, this is a great place to work.

    Great product. Nothing else.

    Pros

The ladies in the storefront and marketing are amazing at their job and made the work environment much more enjoyable.

    Cons

The CEO is a micromanager with a distorted sense of reality. Embarrassingly low wages. Definite lack of communication between departments. No direct manager to go to for escalations. High expectations with no guidance. Little to no follow-up to escalations or urgent matters. Warehouse is likely a huge safety hazard.

Great potential for this company, but all is ruined by the CEO's own hand due to her inexperience and frugalness

    Pros

    - great people (besides CEO) - innovative concept/product - good potential to become something big - fun and happy environment without CEO around - a lot of talent in the company

    Cons

    - everyone is underpaid - CEO has no idea what she is doing - staff are always blamed and criticized - CEO has no respect for employees personal life (emails at inappropriate times, constant OT, with no compensation) - unclear directions on work - confusing demands and guidelines - unattainable goals - minimum pay, maximum work - CEO degrades and humiliates Husband partner publicly - CEO always scheming on how to rip on the next staff

Business model and CEO not to be trusted.

    Mar 7, 2015 -

    Pros

There were some strong and talented employees in the company.

    Cons

CEO is highly insecure and thus refuses to set any direction or clear strategy - the business model changed completely without the proper evaluation and cash flow is depleting far too quickly. There is absolutely no longevity for the company. I would advise anyone who is thinking about joining this company to be weary of this. Turn over is very high. There is an EXTREME lack of professionalism from CEO and husband (General Manager). They have unrealistic expectations from their employees and lack basic human decency (screaming and shaming of employees while error is almost always from them), openly speaking ill of people in the company, expectation to understand the ins and outs of their employees' personal life, and the list goes on. CEO refuses to make any clear decisions or give proper direction for fear of "being wrong" but demands a firm and clear outcome from employees when it is near impossible. CEO has an obsession with control and interferes with interdepartmental communication. This has lead to major company errors simply because two people were kept at bay from one another when most work, as you know, in any organization is interconnected. CEO sends lengthy emails at very late hours and on weekends to entire staff including CSRs reprimanding people and demanding more while most staff members are extremely underpaid (embarrassingly underpaid). CEO openly threatens staff job security daily. Overall the company's business model (if you can call it that) is on the verge of complete failure and CEO is unprofessional and doesn't believe in basic human rights.

What you need to know before deciding to work at Henkaa. The honest truth about the company

    Mar 3, 2015 - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Learn what a bad company is all about and what to avoid in the future when you want to join a company with good leadership, culture, and strategy. There are good people working there that have strong knowledge in their respective roles and are dedicated to seeing things improve. People have tried to speak up in support of changes. The company have tried to be creative in all their approaches, but haven't had the luck.

    Cons

Leadership - The company management team basically has no leadership abilities, very indecisive, very emotional, doesn't understand basic business knowledge and drivers to help move the business forward, makes assumptions without facts. They are their own obstacle to success. The head of the business loves to repeat other peoples ideas and take credit for it, but truly only has a small grasp of the idea but tries to sell it as if she knows it all and in the end fail in execution every single time because of the lack of knowledge. The head of the company is too blinded by conviction to actually look at facts to make decisions. Culture - This is a mom and pop shop, let's be clear about that, its not even a company. They are basically an online retailer and that's it. They could save money by just running their business from home and have stylists do appointments and go to the customers' home for fitting, probably would save them more money then the rent they pay monthly and the overhead cost of having store personnel. Management of the business constantly are fighting and giving different directions to employees. It's like one big dysfunctional family. Some people in management are always emasculated by the head of the company in public settings in front of employees. If you want to feel stressed out and enjoy office blow ups, this is the place to be. The business sells itself as amazing marketing and a fashion company. But the reality is that they have no clue how to market their product (one product - a convertible dress, everything else they sell is useless as no one buys). They don't even have the basic knowledge of online marketing to drive sales. The company isn't financially strong and waiver on hopes each month. They have a habit of hiring people and just letting them go because they realize they don't have money, The average turnover rate is less than 12 months due to lay offs.
