Start-up vibes but an overall functional company, unlike most start-ups. Leadership was accessible, collaborative, and easy to work with. Fast-moving company with a lot of opportunities for growth.

- not very competitive pay - hybrid work schedule (2 days/wk in office, but might have changed, can be seen as a pro for some)

I was with Helix for about six weeks before I was laid off. That was an unpleasant surprise, but I also noticed that almost all the other employees hit by the layoff were women who were heads of their respective teams, as the founders "took back some duties" until finances stabilized, I guess. Combined with murmurs of a boys club culture I heard at some coffee dates with other employees and the fact that they laid off someone at eight months pregnant a year later, a picture starts to form.

Management was fairly secretive about performance; multiple times there were surprise layoffs where the workforce was trimmed by 20-30%.

Everyone is extremely friendly and incredibly smart Great work life balance Founders are incredibly smart, focused, and driven to grow the company while building a challenging, but very fun work environment Everyone is empowered and their opinion is valued and respected. Office snack, happy hours, events, and dog friendly office!

The founders put together an excellent team of talented individuals. Even though a company culture that works for everyone is hard to achieve, you can tell the founders care based on numerous efforts to build camaraderie amongst everyone.

As the company aged it became more difficult for the founders to stay well informed on issues within each team.

This fast-paced startup was a great place to launch a career. The three founders were engaged and limited red tape made role development a challenging thrill.

Management could do more to provide clear career growth.

The team here is fantastic. Everyone is very knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. The anxiety you would normally feel from starting a new job is quelled almost immediately by how comfortable the atmosphere is.

Cons

The onboarding is still a WIP, so it's easy to get confused early on, but it's easy to ask questions and get answers, so you're never too far in the dark.
