I have been working at Hamilton Health Sciences part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Friendly staff, many opportunities for further education,

    Cons

Due to limited positions as an OTA/PTA it can be difficult to land full time positions within the first 3-4 years of being employed.

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Hamilton Health Sciences full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

great salary and excellent benefits; if you're lucky you may land a good team and a solid manager.

    Cons

roles and responsibilities are inconsistent (within departments and individual teams). Some people seem to do nothing all day, every day, while others work like crazy and carry the load -- what's worse, management consistently awards those who do nothing. Its shocking how embedded this practice is. At the end of the day, everyone overlooks the obvious and focuses on covering their own butt and getting their... paycheck.

I have been working at Hamilton Health Sciences full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Overall it's a great place to work, especially if you're in a unionized department. Lots of benefits and an amazing pension. Vast majority of individuals that work here are phenomenal people.

    Cons

Unionized can be annoying sometimes, especially when individuals with significantly less experience than new employees have a great deal of seniority over the new employees. There aren't many but there are definitely a few bad apples throughout the organization that can make it a miserable place to work.

    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Hamilton Health Sciences full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

reasonable benefits and pay for full time workers,

    Cons

Hard to get full time position. Be prepared to work short staffed 50-80% of your shifts. Corporate initiatives and changes without real input from staff.

    Advice to Management

Succession planning, career management and basic human resources planning need to improve. Leaving units short staffed puts peoples life in danger. Leaving units short staffed leads to work injuries and burnout. Wellness initiatives and staff education has very little usefulness when people are forced to work short, make short cuts and endanger patients and themselves.
