    Pros

Great Travel benefits Clearly defined company values Young, fun coworkers

    Cons

Owner has an abusive management style In every department there is a focus on rankings to the detriment of morale It is easy to rank based on objective goals (sales numbers etc.) but rankings are often based on subjective performance which creates a culture of favorites.

I have been working at Grand Circle Travel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    The actual employees are wonderful.

    Cons

They would offer you a raise to do more work and as soon as you were done training they would change the insentives. The last few months I was working support, air and sales for the same pay I was hired for just support.

I have been working at Grand Circle Travel

    Pros

    Travel, People (some), and Location

    Cons

Oh, where to begin. When Leadership meetings take place, you sense the participants cringing. If the owner is present, something will be said that in any other company would be grounds for termination. I compare Alan to our President (what’s to follow is not a political statement but more about character and behavior). I honestly believe that the owner does not care how he treats people and how he oversees his company because he has money. Money drives Ego. Ego, if left unchallenged, becomes Power. He also is looking and waiting for someone to challenge him hard! He knows he treats everyone like ‘puppets’ pulling their strings. I’ve seen on more than one occasion people challenge him or stand up for themselves resulting in that person being in his good graces, at least for a short period until the person demonstrated weakness.

    Pros

Benefits and comp are very good.

    Cons

GC claims associates are their core asset and they honor their values like open and honest communication. They DO NOT practice it. Bullies in the workplace are the worst and they start here in the executive suite. If they don't like you, they'll let you know it, no matter how well you do you job. The executive suite, and their so-call EAs, minions really, are the most unprofessional and immature group I've ever encountered in my career. They create a force field of hostility that's hard to ignore, rise above and just do your job. Allowing others to disrespect and conspire against you, especially when it's you against a few, is unacceptable, exhausting and very uncomfortable. Imagine, this group is 50+ envying the new person because she's running circles around them. I already went to high school, thank you. Life is too short to have anyone treat you less than you deserve or make you uncomfortable every single day. If you're thinking of joining, think twice. It may look good from the onset, but it's truly rotten inside.

    Pros

Pay is relatively higher compared to other companies in the industry. However, it is very much subject to your job function.

    Cons

Although the company lists the open communication as the core value of the company, it doesn't practice it itself. The promotion, organization changes are very arbitrary and way too political in nature.

I worked at Grand Circle Travel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It's tempting to do nothing but bash this place. However, I loved my team, had a great manager, got promoted, and made good money here. I received opportunities that a more functional company would never have entrusted to someone with my lack of experience (more on that below). The product is fantastic, though that fact is obscured by an inane marketing strategy and incompetent web team (seriously, just try to navigate the website efficiently).

    Cons

While I appreciate my hiring manager taking a chance on someone like me, with little to no experience in my desired position, it's indicative of a huge problem: Grand Circle is so toxic that they lose any employee with talent and can't recruit qualified prospects. From the top down, very few people know what they're doing. Insecurity causes most managers and employees here to be cruel and lash out (a behavior which is modeled after the childish psychopath who's in charge of the company). The fortunate quit of their own volition. On the other hand, many rising stars are eventually promoted into positions for which they have no qualifications. For a short while, they can do no wrong. Then they inevitably make a mistake and are shown the door—sometimes violently. I'm not joking; the CEO has gotten physically violent while firing people. If you are an ambitious person, it may be tempting to come to a company where the pay is high and people get promoted so frequently. I'll warn you: when it comes time to find your next job, you'll lack the necessary skills and qualifications to be hired anywhere else, because Grand Circle is operating as if it's still 1995. Absolutely STAY AWAY if you're in the marketing field. They still haven't moved on from direct mail, for crying out loud. Your career is not worth risking for this place.

I worked at Grand Circle Travel full-time

    Pros

Depending on your manager, the hours can be pretty flexible.

    Cons

The place is an organizational mess. Bunch of yes-men in charge with no management skills. Can't put into words how ridiculous and delusional the owner is. Constantly intimidates employees and feels the need to put down any differing beliefs. Terrifying that a company that operates in this manner actually exists. No matter how desperate you may be, I would avoid taking a job here.
