I worked at Grand Circle Travel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good salary Travel opportunities Good training for the guides

    Cons

No support about an abusive manager (2 colleagues hired after me left in less than 3 months because of manager) Unachievable targets raised every year (even if the target has NEVER been achieved) Lack of training, you need to learn on the job and responsibilities are dropped on your lap even if you've never learned how to do it. No teamwork (do your job without comments or asking for help is considered teamwork) Guides or staff being let go based on manager personal preferences as much as actual review/feedback.

I have been working at Grand Circle Travel for more than 5 years

    Pros

Probably the best company I work for, payment is great and people are always focussed on making the best for their travellers. This company is not for everybody, you need to be aware that the pressure can be high, but thats what makes it great.

    Cons

Some people can't take the pressure and then start to complain, you can always leave.

"Take the money and run... at least in Portugal/Spain GCC cruises"

I have been working at Grand Circle Travel part-time

    Pros

Great pay. They also invest lots of money in trainning staff (but soon they lose it, as they fire Program Directors for not having Excelent surveys, instead of firing those who didn't design an Excelent itinerary... at least in Portugal&Spain cruises).

    Cons

Toxic company. If your collegues do wrong, you go up in the ranking, so not much team work nor spirit of partnership. Besides, also managers are so nervous of being randomly fired (as we say, the question is not IF you'll be fired, the question is WHEN) that blame anyone, but themselves, of any mistake. To keep you job, you have to focus on the surveys (and making friends with the boss), not in a good work. So to achieve good surveys Program Directors have to repeat as a parrot words like "Learning&Discovery", "Controversial topic " etc, so that, when the travelers fill out their surveys, they understand what the survey is asking about and rate you well (very silly surveys, they should learn how other companies do them in a more accurate and fair way). As cruise director Evgenya Portnyagina uses to say, "our passengers are brainwashed". And, yes, it is more a question of tactics and brainwashing passengers that of doing a professional work. On the other hand, for GCCL the client is always right ... and we all know that, working with human beeings, that is not always the case.

I worked at Grand Circle Travel part-time

    Pros

meeting great skilled employees because they know how to choose the best!

    Cons

They are crazy about their Values and Ratings, it seems numbers are more important to them than people. They love to take the best out of their employees, suck their blood to the bones, and when there is nothing left, throw them out of the company without any compassion! Run away!!!

I worked at Grand Circle Travel for more than a year

    Pros

I worked for GCT as a Program Director/Trip Leader. The culture in the company allowed widespread bullying. When you work for them you are an independent contractor - very convenient, isn't it? They don't cover health insurance, social insurance or anything else. You are always threatened that this could be your last trip if people don't rate you Excellent. You work from 6-7 in the morning until 10-11 at night. No paid leave as you can imagine. They ask the customers to tip the crew and staff in order to make up for the peanuts they pay as wages. The support you get if you have a problem is zero. You can decide for yourself if this is a company worth working for.

    Cons

    the paycheck is very low
