I have been working at Goldman Sachs full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

They understand how important engineering is and are focusing on raising the quality of people we hire. Also they put a big emphasis on core engineering and providing the right tools to build great products

    Cons

We are still bound by the corporate titles of VP & MD. There is big gap in between and little in terms of career path to see how you are tracking.

    Advice to Management

Align engineering titles/level to be the same as other tech firms.

I have been working at Goldman Sachs full-time for more than 5 years

        Pros

Everyone generally has a strong work ethic and “water seeks it’s own level” so the high performing culture is inspirational. Great firmwide programming. The biggest asset is really the people.

        Cons

The manager selection criteria is undefined, unintentional and ad hoc.

        Advice to Management

Be more transparent about firm strategy and focus on developing prospective managers before putting them in a seat with the power to impact people’s careers

I have been working at Goldman Sachs full-time for more than 10 years

          Pros

          Easy work, good people.

          Cons

The work is not challenging, the politics and managing up are the challenging part of the job. If you want to get promoted and get paid, you need to make sure you get in-front of your manager and your manager's manager regularly. Do a good job, and promote yourself and manage up.
