I worked at Goldman Sachs full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working in the finance department is a good place to learn how to operate in a large company with multiple divisions. If you work hard you will receive significant responsibility. Internal mobility is difficult but possible, if you work hard and network you can move across divisions.

    Cons

Work tends to be process based rather than true problem solving. The company is large and therefore has its fair share of politics. There is a significant push for diversity, which I believe is important, but the effort has come at the cost of hiring less qualified candidates. Face time still exists, there is shaming for leaving earlier than others even if there is no more work to be done.

    Advice to Management

Continue to hire diverse Analyst classes but keep the same standard for all candidates.

I worked at Goldman Sachs full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Goldman Sachs hires some of the best people you'll ever meet. Everyone is intelligent, compassionate, interesting and wants to be the best. Uncle lloyd.

    Cons

There are more cons to Goldman Sachs than pros. The firm continues to reminisce of the glory days much like a father in the throes of a mid-life crisis. They should have a chiropractor on standby for all the analysts putting the firm on their bank. The firm works off the blood, sweat and often times the tears of their analysts. Underpaid, over worked and fed the Wall-Street kool-aid. Every analysts that steps... through their doors is fed the same sappy story of how they too someday could be a managing director. But I ask, to what end? What is the point? Selling your soul to the devil who will steal your youth, sanity, and confidence for the dream of someday becoming a GS Managing Director is but a folly and a fools errand. If you are considering working for Goldman Sachs, I instead would reconsider all of my life's choices, and maybe go move back home for a few months to figure it all out. It's not worth it. Also the pay is terrible comparatively! You will work 12 hours a day.

    Advice to Management

You've created an extremely toxic culture, that's why your turnover rate is like 95% y/o/y. Seriously, quit while youre ahead, rethink your strategy and bring uncle Lloyd back.
