I worked at Gogo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There was a lot of talented and smart people with great ideas working there, DevOps infrastructure was one of the best I've seen so far. Pay and benefits were nice. Projects were a mix of many technologies and generally complex, which is tempting to engineers looking for a challenge and working on something new.

    Cons

Highly disorganized management and corporate politics are killing this company. Think about Game of Thrones but in a corporate setting. Too many managers who don't seem to trust each other, serving empty promises and making simple business decisions really complicated; one small change on the project usually results in the several hours meeting or two... If you have luck you will have a good product manager who will fight for your team and your ideas, otherwise prepare to be suck into politics and lose a lot of time in the meetings and discussions.

Last year, a lot of (good) people left the company as the result of bad company decisions and changes in the management. The company decided to outsource a big chunk of the development to an Indian firm, which really was a hit to general standard and quality of the engineering, several great teams were disbanded in favor of the Indians, and that was a final drop which resulted in a lot of employees leaving the company, and most of the currently employed are on the lookout for something better.

    Advice to Management

Focus on cleaning the upper management and directors before you point the blame on the development teams, which are locked in place by bad decisions.

Get some leaders who truly understand your airline customers and who understand it’s a relationship business

I have been working at Gogo full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Combination of many complex technologies and challenges, which leads to many opportunities to find something fun or interesting to do in any engineering domain - telecom, satcom, networking, ecommerce, global logistics and fleet maintenance, HW design-testing-integration, UX, IP-TV, aircraft engineering, big data, data science.

    Cons

Chronically extremely disorganized, upper management does not seem able to turn business around; very uneven level of people, if you are lucky your team will have good management and talent that is fun to be around.

I have been working at Gogo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Convenient location, decent benefits, did I mention location?

    Cons

Director and above level management have no idea what it is their employees do. Company has gotten restructured so many times some new hires have had 3 different people they’re reported to within a year. There is no trust within teams and overall a dysfunctional time to be part of this company. Directors have multiple teams under their belt some of which have no experience in the field they are managing which makes it extremely hard to get work done.

    Advice to Management

Get Directors and above that care and are well versed in the field they are managing. You are losing great talent because good employees can’t do the job plus explain to their superiors why or how it is they’re working on what they’re working on.

I worked at Gogo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the best teammates and some of the smartest people I have had the privilege to work with. Company has a great product and nice working facilities. Good benefits.

    Cons

DTO "discretionary time off" is not what they say it is. Up to your manager to grant the time, then you are expected to work on your time off. Basically, you are "on call" 24/7 and it is expected that you are on call to work weekends.
Management needs to keep their promises. Lots of good employees have left because of poor management.

    Advice to Management

Keep your promises. Do what you say you are going to do.
