I have been working at Global Pet Food part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work as a cashier isn't difficult but you will be expected to develop your knowledge of pet nutrition. It helps to really care about peoples' pets - if you can help them feed their animals better customers are really appreciative. Customers are generally easygoing and I've never had anyone make a big scene in the 2.5 years I've worked at my store, unlike other customer service jobs. Animals come in to the store occasionally and spending time with them is part of your job. If you have a dog you will likely be allowed to bring it to the store as long as it's well-trained. Management is not extremely strict and respects work-life balance. You will never have an issue with getting time off if your pets need to be taken to the vet. If you are looking to network in the pet industry, this is a good starter job. Pet food reps that visit the store can often get you in contact with their companies and put in a good word. Finally, as an employee you get a discount on all store merchandise. The amount discounted depends on the store, but the house brand cat and dog food is very high-quality and inexpensive.

    Cons

Management at franchised locations can be lax. Stores rarely follow corporate guidelines and most decisions will be made at the store manager's discretion, which can be annoying when it comes to things like deciding which new products to stock, as the manager's decisions can often make no sense to you. Moving up the corporate ladder is difficult because franchised stores have little contact with corporate. Cashiers aren't offered any benefits or pay raises.

I have been working at Global Pet Food full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Trust to complete works tasks without constant oversight Creative freedom of content creation Variety of job responsibilities - all of my skills are utilized and everything I enjoy doing is combined into my role Really feels like family - very supportive executives and coworkers Everyone has a high level of enthusiasm for their jobs, making work tasks enjoyable Working out of office allows for a break-up of the routine

    Cons

Working many different jobs that require different skill sets and different state of mind; pay is representative of working just one set of responsibilities, when requirement is to work multiple sets of responsibilities. Benefits leave some to be desired Lack of flexibility in office hours makes commuting difficult

I have been working at Global Pet Food full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Can be both franchised and company owned so perks can differ store to store. also if you love animal nutrition that is the focus, more so than sales.

    Cons

As above if you do happen to not have a great franchisee that can affect things greatly.

I worked at Global Pet Food part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Got to see cute puppies and learn a lot about pet food

    Cons

My location had an awful manager that encouraged dysfunction. While a family emergency was occurring in my life, the manager specifically instructed other employees to not cover the shifts I needed covered to go aid my sick family member. They proceeded to let personal issues affect how they treated the staff. Not to mention changing discount policy after 3 months of being hired so I would have to wait longer to receive benefits. Easiest quit of my life. Whenever there was a bad review online of our store, management would encourage employees to argue with reviewer online and to get our family to do the same. I recognize this was all because of the location I was at and there are other good stores out there. However, that was my experience

I worked at Global Pet Food part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Awesome products that our carried, and knowledge reps

    Cons

Horrible management, went to manager about gossip and bullying and was told to suck it up. Loves to hire people make them work right up until the end of there probation and then fire them. Crap pay for the amount of work that has to be done. Not worth it at all. Even with the love of pets

I have been working at Global Pet Food full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I'm pretty impressed by the nutrition educator and all the reps. I really y like how my communication has been positive with HO. I just don't know everyone which is why I'm rating a 4 for senior management.

    Cons

I've had a couple of gripes with my Manager, looking back they were all due to miscommunication between us. I did get the franchisor involved as a third party to mediate and everyone is pretty happy now. Relationships take work!
