    Negative Outlook

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline

    Pros

Pleasant working environment and generally good compensation and benefits. Very good work/life balance. Access to high end instrumentation. Usually, budget available for conference or training.

    Cons

Sometimes slow decision making process. Large company with systemic administrative burden. Shortcoming of scientific strategies. Restrictive rules for article writing and presentation.

    Advice to Management

Capitalize on internal resources to maintain a high expertise standard. Live your values. Try to get the support groups to work in alignment of the core business goals and projects activities.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline for more than a year

    Pros

Pays well, nice working facilities, feels good working for a company that produces quality medicines and products

    Cons

Canada is operated as a "satellite" office, with little decision making happening here. Strategy is handled globally, and adopted by local markets.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

GSK Vaccines has great potential and does place an emphasis on R&D. There are many senior scientists with valid experience and in general a positive level of ambition and team work. The pay and benefits are good and the environment for career growth - especially for younger employees is excellent.

    Cons

GSK Vaccines has a huge bureaucracy which places too high an administrative burden on the business partners within the organization. More problematic is that all decision making powers remain in their original Belgian headquarters despite the fact the company has branched out to North America, Europe and Asia over the last 5 years. The work for many high level employees in satellite sites is not fulfilling.

    Advice to Management

Retain the current company cultural transformation initiatives and add an initiative to establish key positions at all levels outside of the company HQ.

I have been working at GlaxoSmithKline full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Strong company culture with great values - Very diverse and talented employees - Good employee benefits

    Cons

    - Bureaucratic and slow with decision making - Underpaid salary - Inconsistent investment in people

    Advice to Management

Progressing leaders in the organisation too quickly can have a detrimental affect to the team they begin to manage, as they’re often not equipped with the right tools and years of experience. Leaders need to show stronger accountability especially when things go wrong.
