I worked at George Weston Foods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As like all great businesses " its the people that make the difference!"

The people in the business really love the brands and truly are "foodies"

The company is genuinely giving back to the community with involvement in programs like Food Bank, and have lots of great programs in the diversity and inclusion space.

There is excellent opportunities for personal development and the company invests heavily in their people.

The workplace culture is friendly and people are down to earth and passionate about customer service, quality products and the brands they love.

Plenty of opportunity to get involved in National Projects, network, collaborate with other functions, and stretch yourself beyond your specific role.

Many great leaders across P&P (HR) and Operations that I have learnt a lot from. P&P - HR "do have a seat at the table!"

Diversity within the senior leadership team & Diversity and Inclusion in general is good.

    Cons

Need to be patient with legacy systems as the business transitions to new platforms and technology.

As with many businesses building a continuous improvement culture, there is a need to be flexible and patient with changes as strategies are cascaded through the functions - and not all ideas succeed ( the first time round)

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work focusing on Safety and also investing in Talent / Capability.

I have been working at George Weston Foods full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great brands and people, opportunities for people who fit the mold to move around in Australia and internationally

    Cons

Management too focused on presentations and strategy meetings, actual delivery of results counts a distant last to telling people how wonderful you are.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the team, and be less internally focused. Listen to dissenting opinions

I worked at George Weston Foods full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

GWF is a great employer and pays well with good terms and conditions, however their subsidiary, Jasol, is in a declining market and managerial turmoil. Thus they have had and probably will have more redundancies.

    Cons

Jasol is their cleaning division and is going through a touch time at the moment.

    Advice to Management

Review the company from the top down and profile each position and see if you have kept the right people

    Pros

The people are fantastic. The value set and the leaders truly role modelling this. Always wanting to grow and improve. Lots of space for entrepreneurial leaders. Very empowering environment.

    Cons

The IT systems are very old and there are still a lot of things done manually. Need to be patient with the evolution of systems.

    Advice to Management

Definitely continue the authentic, transparent and empowering environment. And the continuous improvement environment that encourages all people, senior leaders included to grow, develop and shine.

I worked at George Weston Foods full-time

    Pros

The company has lots of product promotions to keep the job interesting and challenging. It had a great working culture once but with every new senior management change, this is disappearing.

    Cons

Senior management only pay lip service, talk the talk but do not walk the walk. You are told that you are under performing but given no help to improve it and threatened with dismissal. Giving feedback is deemed to be negative and you get chastised for it. Management says it has an open door policy for employees to voice their concerns but really, once you say something they don't like to hear, watch out!

    Advice to Management

Be sincere and honest and open about wanting to get feedback from employees without fear of reprisal.
