I worked at General Atomics full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Extremely talented and intelligent people. Exciting, rewarding work.

    Cons

Some people who have been at the company over 10 years seem complacent, unmotivated, and do not help the new employees learn the ins and outs of the company

    Advice to Management

Start employees on Pips when they don't pull their weight. Spread work evenly among the Program Managers. Do not hire a PM without a STEM degree.

I have been working at General Atomics

    Pros

Great company and good benefits. Family environment and work with very talented people. Great atmosphere and caring management. Cutting edge technology. Good product. I would highly recommend this company if you are a male.

    Cons

HR department has the worst reputation in town. There is very little if any career path at all. It is blatantly gender biased even though they deny it with so called study analysis. We know it and they know it but somehow continue to get away with it.

    Advice to Management

Nothing that they don't already know.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at General Atomics for more than a year

    Pros

Interesting domain. Impact on real world operations in the news every day. Business is good, now and future outlook. Company rarely fires people, so job security is good for most employees.

    Cons

Engineering driven culture minimizes impact/influence of management. Company success has been almost exclusively in sole source work, so company has not had to compete for its success. This has resulted in poor processes and low competency in many core functional areas of the company. Career advancement opportunities are limited. Salaries are not competitive with market and raises are low.

    Advice to Management

Bring in more individuals from outside the company at senior levels, especially individuals with experience in competitive DoD environments. Be more aggressive in identifying and promoting strong performers.

I have been working at General Atomics full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lots of talent throughout the org. - opportunities to learn from the team - great benefits - amazing product - pay is on par - location - Managers expect you to make your own way and find opportunities and go for it. Interesting and fun projects that make a difference.

    Cons

Growing pains as the company continues to grow.. but these are also opportunities to dive in and help out. Horrible on-boarding process (don't really have one) - training is getting better.

    Advice to Management

Keep the star players and reward them. Let's think outside the box and find opportunities for continued growth. Pulse the staff for ideas...there are a ton of skilled and experienced people in the ranks - Keep up the great work -
