      Pros

great benefits good culture good salary good commission structure

      Cons

Luck of the draw as to what desk you get. That determined how successful/easy the job will be Got stuck with merged accounts that were hard to build a book of business, needy, and weren't spenders

      Declining industry

May 17, 2021 - Assistant Packaging Manager in Brussels, Brussels

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Planning / Organization: Resulting in meeting nightly deadlines and production goals. Communication and corroboration: Working with other department managers/supervisors in order to achieve departmental and company goals. Teamwork: Creating strong teams and training people who exhibited the right attitudes and aptitude and seeing them excel.

      Cons

Declining work force: The nature of the newspaper industry is in a continuous decline and the company is unwilling to pay enough money to keep a steady workforce. Many long term reliable and very good workers continue to leave for other opportunities making it difficult to staff for production.

      A nightmare

      Pros

Work can be interesting at times.

      Cons

No one cares about the quality of the news content. Jobs that should be local are outsourced, and local staffs are cut beyond the bare minimum, leaving not nearly enough people to get the job done. "Local" newspapers have to be filled with irrelevant content or wire copy because there aren't enough writers and editors. Local management is an old boys club, lots of nepotism, clique-y and poor communication. Salaries are a mess; not only very low, but in many cases, veterans of several decades were making less than new hires because of the complete lack of raises. Local management did not care about these disparities. Constant threat of layoffs. Corporate efforts toward diversity shrugged off at the local level. Absolutely no opportunity for advancement. Good workers had more work piled onto them while poor workers were allowed to slack off. Manager took work away from his right-hand man, gave it to people who made less money. Products have zero respect around town; delivery drivers toss papers onto front lawns, which gets reported to neighborhood associations constantly. Absolutely no work culture or camaraderie -- no parties, no activities, no bonuses. No encouragement or kudos from management, ever. Should I go on?

      Overworked and Underpaid

      May 12, 2021 - Marketing

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - some nice co-workers - it's a paycheck

      Cons

      - little to no raises - little sense of job security - constant process and workflow changes - no opportunity for growth or promotions - management adds more to your workload and tells you that it makes you well-rounded. Don't fall for it - they're just trying to save money by not hiring enough people. Gannett squeezes as much work out of you as possible until you're burned out. - management likes to say that we provide "white glove" customer service, but it's impossible when we're all overloaded and underpaid.

      Failing company

      Jun 13, 2021 - Regional Sales Manager

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Decent pay and benefits for management. Sales weasels not so good.

      Cons

The entire newspaper advertising industry is failing. Gannett has reached a point where they can't acquire much more so the downside is huge. The company is good, but they are losing more money every year and theres not many people left to lay off.
