I have been working at Ford Motor Company for more than a year

    Pros

Well structured business procedures and highly experienced management team. Overall a very buttoned-down organization with great IT group and facilities. Location in Oakville, ON is also a plus.

    Cons

Decision making power lies in the US, all support services are out-sourced to the US or india. Skeleton workforce is maintained to keep business running in Canada. As a result few employees are excited about their work and work-life balance is a constant difficulty.

I worked at Ford Motor Company

    Pros

Vehicle discounts, good benefits, decent compensation package, challenging work environment, opportunities for advancement exist for those willing to play the game

    Cons

No respect for work/life balance, although overtime is paid for some salaried employees, it is typical to put in for 20 hours of overtime during a pay period and have an area manager arbitrarily decide you will be paid for less than half of them. The company owns you. I have known people whose vacations to Europe were cancelled at the last second because they were suddenly needed to fill in for a manager's pet employee. My area manager used to throw his two-way radio at people and berate supervisors in front their employees.

I worked at Ford Motor Company full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The benefits are amazing, and the pay is great.

    Cons

You're just a number at Ford, they literally rank every single person against each other in their department for your annual review. You become a dot on a ranking matrix rather than just get helpful feedback and advice. Honestly it was pretty dehumanizing and the culture was pretty cutthroat. I was pressured into starting my masters degree in engineering because everyone else was doing it, and I hated it - which made me feel less than worthy. It also felt like all the jobs I was given were worthless projects and busywork, I never felt like I had the ability to make a contribution to the company. Also, my department always bragged about work/life balance, but they had people who would regularly work 60-80 hour weeks EVERY week.
