I have been working at Fidelity Investments full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good place to learn, they have great benefits, bonus and rrsp and encourage learning. Great for new grad to stay for 1-2 years. Good training.

    Cons

Little growth, there is an old club feeling in Toronto. There is high competition for internal roles. There is alot of bad mouthing. Not somewhere to stay long term. Very process oriented and adverse to change or new ideas. Lacks employee cultural diversity. Employees dont understand how so many awards are won, its nice on paper but we dont see it in action.

    Advice to Management

Employees want opportunities. Listen to them, explain how performance is determined.

I have been working at Fidelity Investments full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good opportunities to learn a lot and see everything in action. Good RRSP benefits

    Cons

Very little room to grow, have to wait a long time to grow. Management doesn't care about the growth of employees and isn't proactive for it. Work and life balance is very bad, often have to stay late.

    Advice to Management

Stop following the same old techniques from the 60's. Learn to adapt as time changes. If you want to be a leader in present times, invest in IT and pay them well. Management needs a serious reform

I worked at Fidelity Investments full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Good place to learn about investments - tenured senior management team; Directors and VPs have very little turnover which means there is continuity in policy - fidelity name is great to have on your CV - great pension

    Cons

    - lots of 'glass ceilings', people at senior levels have been at company for years - salaries are not competitive, joining the company there is little room to negotiate your salary - Very rigid processes

I have been working at Fidelity Investments full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Excellent physical location in downtown Toronto, great benefits starting from day 1, good people. Sound policies in place and lots of resources in place. Business and products are time-tested and solid, no danger of going away anytime soon.

    Cons

Management is either getting complacent or mired in groupthink. Either projects are half-baked or not given enough prep or love to make it through. Some aspects of company culture seems to be beset by inertia. And most infuriatingly, sometimes, attention is given more to style than substance.

    Advice to Management

Enough of this style over substance. Put in measures to develop and retain talent, and to start improving vital systems, because things are getting real stale, real fast.
