- Purpose bigger than simply making profits - Consulting-style projects without the extreme hours - Strong pension offering for career employees
Cons
- Pay is based on tenure: equitable regardless of performance. - Plenty of bureaucracy - It's a Government agency, so it's not an agile organization.

Stereotypical Government Work
Jan 25, 2023 - Intelligence AnalystRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The actual work I got to do at the FBI was very fun and interesting. Oh, and saying you got to work for the FBI. The organization also did a great job of helping you feel like you were contributing to the good of America. These are the only reasons I gave my review any amount of stars. The rest of my experience was very unimpressive.
Cons
Very poor work culture, though I guess that's what you can expect working for the government. I was also one of the minority that wasn't formerly in law enforcement or the military: this led to a very unnecessarily competitive and militaristic culture. My supervisors were terrible. There's actually a running joke throughout the entire Bureau that only the worst employees are promoted. If you aren't a special agent, then your needs and goals as an employee are severely backburned. I would just want anyone with FBI career aspirations to know that the work is very exciting (though logged down by paperwork and governmental oversight), and the feeling of public service is strong. Otherwise, hard pass!

Job security if you follow the rules.
Cons
Need to know people and network to get a better job, nobody cares how well you do the job, its about who you know.
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
Telling anyone where you work brings a vision of what you had too your first month on the job.
Cons
If you are a woman who plans to have a child anytime during your career, steer clear. You will likely constantly battle work and life. Your coworkers will insult you and talk about you behind your back because you have obligations outside of the office. It's good and fine and celebrated for a man to have children, but not so much for a mother. You will find your career path prospects dwindle as a result.

Pros
I thoroughly enjoyed the job, but had to leave due to family reasons.
Cons
Bureaucracy is in the name and explains most of the cons.

Rewarding and Frustrating Work Environment
Jan 9, 2023 - Intelligence AnalystRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The work of the FBI is extraordinarily important and provides a unique perspective on the United States and the rest of the world. You will never get to do anything else like it and provides amazing opportunities. The majority of the people I have worked directly with over the years are tremendously smart, caring and hard working individuals. I am beyond thankful for the friendships I have developed during my time at the FBI.
Cons
Leadership has decreased over the years. Managers appear to only care about making decisions based on what will get them promoted and not what is best for the employee, operation, or organization. There is a lack of accountability across various job roles which causes an imbalance of work across the organization. There is a lack of acknowledging employees' work accomplishments, increased difficulty to get promoted, there are massive roadblocks to supporting employees over the life of their career and work life balance.
