    Pros

Top notch training and professional development, business is conducted in a professional manner, work for an industry-trusted brand, good to better benefits

I have been working at FM Global full-time

    Pros

    Great colleagues, benefits are fantastic

    Cons

Depending on your manager, your experience with the company can vastly differ. Been lucky to have great managers. Company vision changed since current CEO took over. Can definitely feel the shift in culture.

I have been working at FM Global full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Competitive benefits, that’s about all.

    Cons

Do not expect to move up the ladder if you don’t have an engineering degree, they really don’t care and would not consider to promote you unless you are willing to have a relationship with one of the big wigs or be stuck being a small manager doing administrative work. Management is horrible especially in the administrative teams. You will be micromanaged and babysat at every little thing you do. Get out once you have your 1-2 year experience. It is not worth it.

I have been working at FM Global full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

As repeated over and over internally by managers: "FM has great benefits and job security". If you are an engineering working for the risk prevention department (field engineer), you will get an "unmatched" training to do your job, which is a great asset in the property risk management industry, making FM Global a great 'school'. The risk management industry is really growing in western countries and FM Global is leading the pack on the engineering side with a lot of research and technical knowledge. If you are an engineer and this industry interests you, taking a first job after university at FM is a great opportunity to boost your technical skills. If you want a 'secure job' in a remote location with scarce job opportunities, you can potentially become a 'resident field engineer' and service the industries around your area - you'd still have to be in the city for a few months in the start of your employment - for training purposes and for them to get to know you and to trust you.

    Cons

Brilliant young talent are pushed to merely comply with the FM way of doing things. It is a true talent extinguisher type of culture. No wonder why some many people are on medical leave - they are bored to the point of depression! Management has no clue on how to respond to new generations' needs and the company keeps on losing capable and/or ambitious people who do not care about FM's 'standard answer to everything: be patient, we have great benefits and solid job security".

I have been working at FM Global full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There are definitely many good things about FM Global, excellent job security, phenomenal benefits package, company wide bonus (if objectives achieved) and lovely, helpful colleagues in all departments.

    Cons

Unfortunately, the environment at FM Global pushes employees to do the minimum. Yearly reviews have almost nothing to do with salary increases (which are paltry) and managers are pushed to give their employees the least possible to keep their department budgets low. No matter what employees tell their managers, all procedures stay exactly the same (meaning there is a high degree of corporate control and a focus on keeping the business exactly as is) and change and growth are not on the menu. FM will have to contend with a changing job market as people who are looking for a challenge move elsewhere, people with new ideas or fresh perspectives are not welcome here. My personal estimate is that job satisfaction is very low.

I have been working at FM Global full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Overall, this is a good company to work for. They are profitable, stable and not afraid to innovate. The mutual nature of the company also makes for a better environment than a public company where decisions are often made in the best interests of the shareholders. FM Global has a good training program in place and there are many opportunities to grow within the company.

    Cons

The pay could be better but the total compensation package is very good if you are looking to stay for a long term. Management in certain offices does not seem to recognize that experience is very difficult to replace. Some office have a unsettling amount of turn over and many of those who leave end up at other insurance companies. Depending on the department in which you work, the work life balance can be poor.

I worked at FM Global full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Excellent benefits, good pay scale, good office infrastructure. For staff working in the field, such as field engineers, account engineers, and account managers, significant training, on-the-job support, and mentorship is provided. Ongoing in-depth training is also offered for a number of other managerial positions. Good investment by the company in health-related initiatives.

    Cons

Much of the training the company provides is focused only on field engineers and managers. Support staff, such as administrative professionals, are continually reminded by via exclusion from corporate events and the attitudes of management that they are not valued team members. In my experience as an administrative professional, the training I received was inadequate to non-existent for most of my time with the company. Also, as a company-wide policy FM Global does not allow managers to provide personal references to employees, as this is considered a liability issue. While colleagues are not barred from offering personal references, management will only confirm your standing with the company at the time of departure, your years of service, and salary (with your permission). Communication within the company and within certain departments can sometimes be ineffective. Critical information is sometimes not well understood by staff to whom it is most crucial. Wide-reaching changes to procedures are at times not well-communicated to some departments.
