I have been working at Export Development Canada full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Nice working environment. Great benefit. Flexibility to work from home.

    Cons

Big company. Some managers made irresponsible decisions to use external consulting service and buy commercial systems. Then EDC has to spend more money to hire consultant to get the work done.

I worked at Export Development Canada for less than a year

    Pros

Beautiful facilities. State of the art tooling. Ability to work from home.

    Cons

In my 20 year career EDC was by far The worst work environment I have ever experienced. The employees are scared of management thereby forcing poor decisions based on political fears. Employees undermining each other at every step. Working in the marketing department felt like working within a highschool clique. Corporately EDC takes a very dehumanizing approach to HR situations. If you are an employee expect a horrible work life balance. I would not recommend working at EDC, ever!

I have been working at Export Development Canada full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very interesting work, you will learn every day. Travel opportunities Excellent leave and health benefits package Work from home On-site gym Location within Ottawa

    Cons

Training and carreer development plans are absent Lots favouritism and politics leading often to non-sense promotions. HR are just here to support management, they are not there for employees. Worklife balance is unpredictable. (Although better than what it used to be) Pension is neutral: a DC plan. Others crown corporation were good enough to revert to a DB plan to retain employees. Not here Quality of new hires is on a downhill There are so much change happening these days that it’s becoming very bureaucratic. Processes are very heavy. Place is packed with consultants who manage projects after projects with no signs of improvement.

I worked at Export Development Canada full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some of the teams are great to work with. Most of the people I worked with were hardworking and a lot of fun. However, the leadership team over the past few years have really changed the culture. It's really place now of top down, this is how it's done attitude. There have been a lot of changes, they are outsourcing and using consultants and getting rid of employees. It's a shame as it was a great place to work but when an opportunity came, even though it was less money, I happy to get out before the bubble burst. Gym onsite Work from home option (if allowed)

    Cons

SVP and Leadership are ruining this company. CEO is going to leave EDC as an empty shell of what was once a great company. Benefits and pension are subpar

I have been working at Export Development Canada for more than a year

    Pros

Central location, possibility to work from home (requires permission)

    Cons

On the first hand EDC looks like an open minded and nice environment to work: nice building, clean environment.... But once you got on board, you work is slowly turning to be the nightmare. Management is quietly getting under your skin. They want to know everything about you and later to use this knowledge against you. Company quietly laying off full time employees and replacing them with contractors. Contractors assigned multiple projects, very often doing the work that was done by 3 or 4 people before. Yes, EDC allows to work from home, but having so much work to do, you have to work not paid overtimes to return this favor. If you consider employment at EDC, I would think twice.

I have been working at Export Development Canada full-time

    Pros

Great development opportunities and work life balance. Beautiful building and good benefits (work from home, onsite gym, open work spaces with lots of light, provide phone and laptop, annual bonus, health spending account, start 3 weeks vacation with downtime over Christmas holidays).

    Cons

Only 6 month mat leave top up. Recent shift in culture. Looking to do more with less, but adding layers of process.
