I worked at Export Development Canada full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Really enjoyed my time here. Ottawa office is absolutely spectacular - a must see! Work is very interesting, people are very professional/nice and there was no micro management. Deadlines very reasonable - have not really seen anybody working too late. The orientation for new employees was fabulous. Benefits are great: 100% on dental and no waiting period.

    Cons

You have to re-pay maternity leave top-up within 30 days of your last day (if you leave before you have worked for the same number of months as top-up after you come back). So be prepared to write a big cheque, including for the taxes that have already been paid to the government. You will have to refund everything in one cheque. No monthly installment or anything like that.

I have been working at Export Development Canada full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very interesting work, you will learn every day. Travel opportunities Excellent leave and health benefits package Work from home On-site gym Location within Ottawa

    Cons

Training and carreer development plans are absent Lots favouritism and politics leading often to non-sense promotions. HR are just here to support management, they are not there for employees. Worklife balance is unpredictable. (Although better than what it used to be) Pension is neutral: a DC plan. Others crown corporation were good enough to revert to a DB plan to retain employees. Not here Quality of new hires is on a downhill There are so much change happening these days that it’s becoming very bureaucratic. Processes are very heavy. Place is packed with consultants who manage projects after projects with no signs of improvement.

I worked at Export Development Canada full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fully equipped on-site gym. Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Ottawa.

    Cons

Extreme negligence from management regarding your career development. Absurd politics and favouritism between employees. Your work in most cases has zero input into the organization's bottom-line and is simply assigned to keep you occupied.

    Pros

    Building, work/life, it infrastructure, ottawa

    Cons

Management is HORRIBLE. Not sure the CEO could have assembled a more useless group if he tried - they have no knowledge of the industries they serve and worse they have no clue on the resources they need to serve them. They collectively see employees as assembly line robots that can be disposed of as needed.

    Pros

One of few options in Ottawa outside of government and tech Good building Support for training

    Cons

Very poor executive leadership that models and promotes the wrong behaviors Lots of burnout, stressed, and overworked employees with a general attitude that employees should "suck it up" A strategy that at least half of the organization doesn't buy into, because it's been poorly executed to date
