I wanted to apply for credit cards to get bonus points. My credit scores are 799 with equifax and 798 with TransUnion. Have 4 hard inquiries still on the record. My application for the amazon credit card got declined last March when my score was a bit lower and got ~6 hard inquiries. Personally I think it sucks that we won't find out if the credit card application is accepted or declined until the credit is hard pulled. Is there a more reliable way to be sure of the application being accepted?

      Volatile organization

      Pros

Truly some of the best people to work WITH sometimes. Bright minds. Some great products.

      Cons

Some of the worst people to work FOR. Always having to cover your A. S/S, as no one has any issues throwing others under the bus. Was always having to save emails and messages to ensure my story was confirmed. Just not a great work culture. The senior management and leaders also do not have your backs in any situations, on the wrong or right side of things. They've recently been given the direct from International to let go of top talent with any tenure or large pay stubs, and improve the bottom line.

      Pros

Excellent HR on-boarding, salary, health benefits. Good leadership in the American office. The Sales team are sharp and ready to sell. Flexible working hours.

      Cons

Canadian leadership is impotent. A bunch of +/-50 year olds clueless to marketing and the new economy. A group of men and women that act to appear in control in front of Rick Smith. Politics at its best. A senior management team that is looking to hold their positions rather than inviting clever minds that are capable of transforming the company. Quiet turnover. Toxic culture.

Business-driven IT environment, as opposed to technology-driven. A company good enough for staying with for max 5 years.

      Pros

-Good benefits package -Annual Incentive Plan - performance-based bonuses -Defined Benefit Pension plan PLUS Defined Contribution Pension plan (with RRSP 25-50% match for up to 6% of your before-tax income) -Employees are overall treated with respect and integrity -"Economic moat" - Credit Reporting Agency (TransUnion being the only competitor on Canadian market) -Moderately-sized IT department and company in general. -Salaries above average (due to great profit margins, being an economic "moat").

      Cons

-No career path -No opportunity for training and promotions -The officially stated "meritocracy" does not manifest at all -The yearly performance reviews lack objectivity, performance and creativity/innovation are not recognized and awarded -Too hierarchical, lack of cooperation between various IT sub-departments -Business-driven IT environment, as opposed to a technology-driven one. In terms of technical solutions, mediocre approaches are chosen instead of better ones. Fear of adopting other technologies. -Too Mainframe-centric IT environment. The MF guys are considered the "kings" and the rest of the people (Unix and Windows people) count significantly less for the purpose of allocating new projects. -Inept senior management. Too many changes of direction, from year to year. -Recent offshore initiatives are destroying the IT departments. A lot of layoffs and the offshore devel teams (coming through TCS - Tata Consulting Services) are not delivering sub-standard quality. -A "watch your back" work atmosphere, sink or swim -Officialy, it's supposed to tolerate the English and French languages equally, but a bias exists towards French (and the quebeckers tend to form their own "nest" and "circle" and the English spealing peers from the same team feel excluded, marginalized. -A sort of protectionism is manifesting between the various IT OUs - especially between US and Canada. The Canadian teams come up with very good solutions and infrastructure projects, but they are ignored and only US dictates. -Too much interaction and reliance on IBM as technology partner, and not having its own data center -The use of Lotus Notes/Domino infrastructure instead of something more user/Microsoft friendly.

      Pros

Some good and long term employees. Knowledgeable and loyal.

      Cons

Senior management only cares about $$ and not about the employees. They get taken advantage of by upper management.

Great if you know someone in Senior Management

      Pros

Some of the people are great.

      Cons

The company runs on who you know and who likes you. Nepotism is rife as is the amount of managers who are not capable of working at the level they have been promoted to. The senior management is tone deaf, and at a top level there is a lack of interest in their staff, apparent by the bullying culture which has got worse in the last three years. Executives who curse and scream at staff are tolerated, women and minorities in management are severely under-represented. HR don't care they now have a model where they report into the head of each area, making a closed loop for any complaints. The benefits are not great and get worse every year. Add to this a dishonest representation of how the company has 'improved' since the breach - at best it is just as bad as it was before, just in a different way. The CEO says he cares about diversity and about the BLM movement; he doesn't. Just look at the make up of the senior management team... Bottom line, the company gets it's assets (data) for nothing and packages them into sales-worthy products - it's a business model that makes money no matter how the economy is doing (especially the St Louis portion of the business). Despite this they keep laying people off just before the holidays then talking about how much money they are making. After each layoff the remaining staff are expected to do more work to make up the short fall. I actively encourage anyone looking for a position to look elsewhere unless they know a senior manager - then they will be absolutely fine.

      Pros

Flexibility, nice offices, collaborative at times, availability of resources, investment in technology and cyber security

      Cons

Not a "fun" place to work, benefits cost high, office politics, too much organizational change, start new processes with no buy-in from senior management

      Pros

The benefits are good. The work can be pretty interesting, and you can work with a wide variety of departments and people if you're willing to put in the time and effort and tell management that you're interested in growing your career.

      Cons

The leadership team can be capricious and make mind-blowingly bad decisions. Even on very short notice. Some decisions actually make no sense and contradict decisions they made only a short time ago. Some senior management look out only to protect their positions and won't support their employees.

      Cons

Senior management lacks continuity and focus on enterprise objectives. Shifting priorities challenges efforts getting completed. Execution is not well managed.
