Pros

Awesome place to work! I absolutely loved my internship. Pros: -Great pay ($36/hr) -Free (very nice) housing in downtown Seattle -Great, helpful, friendly co-workers -Lots of fun events (jet skis, movies, whirly ball, rafting, etc) -You hear loads of upper management and executives speak -Learn a ton about enterprise level web development -Small enough company that the work you do is visible and impactful

Cons

Zillow's growth means there's lots of growing pains: -there's great difficulty deprecating anything -similarly, bad architecture only gets worse as things grow -there was a lot of struggles around the testing framework when I was around

Thanks for the feedback, and all your efforts this summer. We have been hosting interns from the very beginning of our company history, and this was our biggest class to date. Each year we look to further improve the program and ensure our interns are both learning and contributing and feel like part of the team. We continue to invest in raising the value and efficiency of our test automation, and you are right that it is a work in progress. We've managed to largely stay ahead of the curve as we've grown in size and some complexity while also working to make our releases more frequent. Giving teams time to reinvest in the core architecture is something we have been doing for a while now, but after ten years, there are some areas we will keep working on. Fortunately, most of our devs are working on new code and functionality, helping to make a better service and user experience. If there is more specific feedback you or any of our interns have, you can easily contact me at davebei@zillow.com. I'd love to hear from you. Thanks again for your efforts this summer and I hope our paths cross again in the future. - David Beitel CTO, Zillow Group

Pros

Very collaborative team, encouraging team members and managers. Great experience overall.

Cons

Because most people work remote, sometimes it can be hard to meet immediately to chat.

Pros

You can make good money here.

Cons

In sales, job can change often. For example: I was making good money and excelling because I am a relationship Sales person. Then they changed it to where you get the sale, and instead of being able to grow that account via that relationship you just broke into, you have to pass it to an account manager and go back to cold/robo calling. You "book" of business you recive to prospect from is a lottery. I received a book of prospects/accounts that most of the were low income, or senior living properties. They don't have a budget and have a line of renter on a waitlist. No way to convince them to spend money on advertising but you still have the same quota.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed perspective. We understand that frequent changes to roles, account ownership and business priorities can have a real impact on relationship-building and the day-to-day experience in sales. We’re glad to hear compensation was a positive part of your time at Zillow, and we appreciate you being candid about where the model and structure felt frustrating. Feedback like yours helps us better understand how these changes are experienced across teams as the business evolves.
