Pros

1) Flexible - with vacation, sick days, location of work etc. Management very inclined to support you however they can for you to be your best self. One of the values at Wave is that "We don't wait -- we live our fullest lives now".. and Wave walks the walk. 2) Impact - your work serves a lot of underserved people and actually helps make their lives better. You get to see the impact first-hand through field visits during retreats to the countries in sub-saharan Africa that we serve. 3) Experience - you get experience owning features end-to-end and designing solutions with the support of your PM. This is really great especially for junior and intermediate people to level up their skills! 4) People - Management and leadership truly wants what is best for their employees and their users. This means enabling its workers and giving them the relevant tools to succeed.

Cons

We travel to the countries we serve ~6 times a year. If you don't like to travel, you might find that hard. We also work remotely, this can be difficult for people who are just starting out in the industry. However, the culture of reaching out for help when you're stuck is very much encouraged. We are still a start-up. This means that there is always change, whether it be process, projects, etc. Wave is always open to change and working in iterations to make things better. If you prefer to be somewhere where there is not a lot of change, this might not be for you.

Pros

Well run company and engineering department. Nice and supportive coworkers. It's a company that has a mission and really believes in it and it's ability to improve people's lives. Opportunity to travel to work with others and to experience the African markets the company operates in.

Cons

Engineering is fully remote, which can be a little isolating. That said, people are always willing to jump on a call. Pay is on the low side.
