Pros

Home dispatch, company vehicle, potentially interesting job.

Cons

Woefully understaffed, ticket volume ridiculously high, mandatory hours mean no social or family life. Overnight oncall also mandatory, but you do not get ANY ADDITIONAL PAY for making yourself available all night. Starting hourly pay does not match the amount of responsibility and level of work that this job requires. If you value time with your family, a social life or getting a decent amount of rest, this is NOT the job for you. This company cares about one thing only: PRODUCTIVITY NUMBERS. New techs are thrown into the fire too soon, and experienced techs can't train them properly in the field because they have too much work to do. .Supervisors are not sensitive to the plight of technician at all. They tell you in training that safety is foremost, but that quickly goes out the window during the summer months when the work volume reaches levels that become impossible to manage. When the work backs up, managers pressure you to do more. Invariably, the mistakes increase and the exhausted tech begin to revolt. Turnover is high, and there is NO VACATION OR PAID TIME OFF during the first year. These guys need a union desperately. Funny thing is, I read reviews before I accepted the job that said the same thing I am saying here, and thought to myself, "How bad can it be?" Well it's that bad folks. You have been warned!

Pros

They train you on how to use the equipment and provide you with a company work truck. The pay is fair for the work you perform and there will be good days and bad days. Raises are given based on damage record and driving record (based on the event monitoring equipped on the work truck.) This is a job that requires initiative and motivation to learn, and be prepared to walk ALOT. Utilities may run through tall grass, deep ditches and through the middle of wooded areas. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, the Supervisors and other techs are more than willing to assist. I enjoyed working for USIC and would recommend it to anyone with a little self motivation and good work ethic.

Cons

Vehicles have cameras which can feel invasive. Summers are hot and winters are cold, prepare accordingly. Locate areas can be dangerous to traverse so stay aware of your surroundings at all times and document conditions.
