Cons
The ever changing structure. Worked with Sky for just over a year and a half. In that time I’ve had 3 commission changes, 1 salary change, 4 area managers, constant staff changes and now an entire over haul from director level down. Sky preach a family environment but have no clue how to actually achieve it. To put the job bluntly we work in shopping centres selling Sky and taking a barrage of verbal abuse all day long. From customers and from management. 10am calls to see what we’re on. 10:30 another. That continues all day until you leave. After working in sales management for the last 12 years I thought I’d take a break. It is more stressful then managing ever was. Normally I’d say to myself hey this is sales. It’s the nature of the beast. That was true when I started. High levels of stress for high levels of pay. That all changed when a new director came in with no clue how to actually sell and if he does then he needs to remember that sales is a dirty job that requires good payment regardless of how it’s dressed up. Unfortunately this is no longer the case so I shall be looking to leave. Barely any recognition Threats of performance plans (even being the top agent across my area in my first year and well above target) No one ever actually seems to know anything as it’s not their job but they don’t know who does and if they do it’s not wise to question things. Cannot voice opinion. this is seen as negative and that can’t possibly be allowed as everything at Sky is roses and rainbows. Constant wrong behaviour (churning) being ignored, brushed under the carpet or “being looked into” A ridiculously inaccurate Glint survey system that is not in the least bit anonymous with preloaded questions aimed at giving the option of pure bliss at work or couldn’t be happier at work. Shame really, I spent 10 years with an eye on working at Sky. The initial training was good. The dream will be sold. Don’t ever think of promotion or aspiration in Sky it is not possible.
