Pros

I’ve been at Riot since before COVID, and looking back over the years, it’s clear to me that this has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my career. What makes Riot special is not just the games we create, but the people who come together to make them. When the pandemic hit, it was an uncertain and challenging time for everyone. But Riot’s commitment to players and Rioters never wavered. Leadership made thoughtful decisions to support us while also keeping the spirit of play alive for millions of people who were relying on our games as a way to connect. It gave me a sense of purpose to know that the work I was doing mattered to players around the world, at a time when they needed it most. The culture at Riot has also evolved in ways that make me proud to be part of this company. I’ve seen greater emphasis on inclusion, transparency, and building trust — both internally among Rioters and externally with our players. There’s a constant drive to raise the bar, whether it’s in game design, storytelling, esports, or how we show up for one another as teammates. On a personal level, Riot has given me opportunities to grow that I don’t think I could have found anywhere else. From cross-team collaborations to big, bold projects, I’ve always felt encouraged to stretch myself and take risks. The passion here is contagious — being surrounded by people who love games and believe deeply in their potential is a huge motivator. I’ve been at Riot since before COVID, and honestly, it’s been an amazing ride. A lot has changed in the world and at Riot over the years, but one thing that’s stayed the same is how much people here care — about players, about games, and about each other. When the pandemic hit, things could have easily gone sideways. Instead, Riot really showed up for Rioters and players. It felt good knowing that, while the world was kind of upside down, our games were giving people a way to connect and have fun together. Being part of that made the work feel even more meaningful. Day-to-day, the best part about working here has always been the people. You’re surrounded by folks who are ridiculously talented, passionate about games, and always pushing to make things better. That energy is contagious — it makes you want to bring your best. For me personally, Riot has been a place where I’ve been able to grow a ton. I’ve had the chance to work on big projects, try new things, and learn from some of the smartest people I’ve ever met. It’s the kind of place where you’re encouraged to take risks and really stretch yourself. Looking back, I feel lucky to have been here through it all. Riot isn’t perfect (no place is), but it’s been a place where I’ve felt supported, inspired, and challenged in the best ways. And the future here still feels really exciting — like the best is yet to come.

Cons

Of course, no place is perfect. Riot can move a little slowly at times — big projects and decisions sometimes take longer than you’d hope, especially given how ambitious the goals are. And like any large company, there are moments where workplace politics can creep in, which can be frustrating when all you want to do is focus on the work and players. That said, I’ve found those challenges are usually outweighed by the passion of the teams and the eventual payoff of getting things right.

Crunch is on the rise, fiscal discipline on exploration is still too loose, lots of layers of management
