Pros

I’ve enjoyed working at Refactor Games for about a year now, starting as an intern and transitioning into a full-time role as a Software Engineer. One of the things I appreciate the most is how much trust the company places in me. I get the opportunity to work on a variety of aspects of our game and I never feel pigeonholed into just one area. This has been a huge factor in my personal growth as a developer, and it’s exciting to see the direct impact of my work on the final product. The team here is filled with passionate and knowledgeable individuals who push each other to constantly improve. I collaborate with some incredibly talented people daily, and the open communication across departments is something I truly value. Everyone is willing to share insights and ideas, which fosters an environment where creativity thrives. The company’s approach to work-life balance as well as hybrid work environment is also a big plus. While crunch time is part of any game development cycle, it has been relatively rare and very reasonable when it does occur. Overall, Refactor Games offers a fantastic work environment with great opportunities for personal and professional growth. I’m proud to be part of a company that values its employees and the work we do, and I’m excited for what’s to come.

Cons

Like many game development studios, there are times when project priorities can shift unexpectedly. While I understand that this is part of the industry, it can sometimes lead to moments of uncertainty. That said, management has been fairly transparent in communicating these changes, and we always adapt quickly as a team. While crunch time is generally manageable, there are periods during the development cycle when the workload can become more intense. While this is typical for the industry, there are moments when it feels like the pacing of deliverables could be better aligned to avoid these peaks.
