Pros

There are little good things about working here. Weekly pay is nice if you need it for bills or other payments, which you likely will when you’re making slightly above minimum wage. The extremely casual dress code is nice. You can wear pretty much anything as long as you don’t look trashy. There are usually free food trucks, raffles, giveaways, or other events fairly often. I suspect this is just for employee retention, however.

Cons

There is certainly a “family” dynamic, and if they don't like you, it’s very obvious. Older employees who have been with the company for a while will treat younger ones disrespectfully, or at least snobbishly. Many of them will tell you not to do certain things, but then will go and do them themselves. If you try and question then it’s pretty dismissive. Along with that, there really isn’t much of an opportunity for growth. There aren’t any team leads or anything of that nature, just a few smaller managers that oversee many departments instead. There usually isn’t a lot of work to do. You end up trying to pass the time looking busy, even after you ask for extra work. There are some departments that are just talking all day because of the lack of work. You can’t really go on your phone, but it’s not like that matters. The cellular connection is so bad that you can’t access anything in the break room or the parking lot. Someone passed while working, which was definitely a new one for me. Extremely low PTO- it takes 30 days worth of work to earn 1 sick day off. They don’t let you take unpaid time off. Almost no benefits, even for full time employees. I believe there are 4 holidays a year, maybe 5? No Memorial Day or Labor Day off, because it is their so-called “busiest times of the year.” Except, they fail to realize that the other 99% of the population has the day off, so they are celebrating with cookouts, not ordering pool supplies. They’ll take care of that afterwards. So after New Years, you have 6 months until 4th of July. Then you have to wait until Thanksgiving, then you get Christmas off!

Thank you for taking the time to review PoolSupplies.com as a workplace. We appreciate that you enjoy our weekly pay system, casual dress code, and employee appreciation events. We do implement these events for employee retention since making our employees feel appreciated is very important to us. We understand your frustration with some dynamics between employees. We encourage you to reach out to your manager or Human Resources who would be very willing to listen and mediate situations between employees. We encourage you to reach out, as well, when you are looking for additional work and work responsibilities. If you don’t receive an answer, then please continue to reach out to our management team. We have multiple employee stories that show the opportunities for growth within the company, and we encourage our employees to apply for jobs that fit their interests and areas of study. Please work with your manager (or HR or your manager’s manager) to ensure that your work continues to be rewarding and meaningful. You may not be aware that we do have a full menu of benefits, including medical, dental, vision insurance, and 401K with a healthy contribution for each from the company. Also, expanded disability insurance and options for employee voluntary benefits including accident and cancer insurance. We offer vacation which is accrued based on how long you’ve been with the company and sick time (following the mandated NYS policy on how it is accrued), of 7 days per year, as well as holidays. And our Employee Incentive Plan pays out a significant profit-sharing payment to all employees twice each year. While we do work on Memorial Day and Labor Day, it is because of our commitment to meet our customers’ needs. We believe it is important to be available when customers are using their pools – and discovering a need for pool supplies. Those holidays are 2 of our busiest days of the year with high amounts of customer orders flooding in. That commitment is what has made PoolSupplies.com a national supplier of swimming pool products. While we always look at new and innovative ways to operate, we strongly believe that in-office work is the best solution for our company. It creates constant opportunities for collaboration and teamwork. This allows us to be nimble and quick with issue resolution to ensure we are always meeting and exceeding our customers’ needs. Thank you for your suggestions to management. We appreciate all constructive criticism and do discuss employee comments with upper management. Thank you for your feedback.

Pros

Easy enough job, in a good area. Lots of overtime in the summer.

Cons

Management is delusional and most kf the time lies about the state of the company to seem better than it is. HR has been known to be outwardly hostile. Around slow season they will look for any small reason to cut back employees no matter how long they are there. Company seems like it's sinking at a rapid pace.

Thank you for reviewing PoolSupplies.com. We appreciate your feedback and experience in your role as Customer Service Representative. It’s nice to hear that you are comfortable in your role, like the area in which we are located and get lots of overtime during our busy season. We are sorry that you feel you are not receiving correct information about the state of the company. We are publishing our second employee newsletter, for distribution tomorrow (11/9/23), hoping to provide information about how the company is doing, where it is headed, how that will impact employees and what employees can do to improve the company. If you have any questions or concerns after reading it, please talk to any representative of management. We do believe we have a good company and good place to work. However, we know that there is always room to improve and we look to all of our employees for suggestions to do just that. We also apologize for any misunderstanding in how HR deals with employees or issues. Hostility is not acceptable in our workplace. Any time it is seen or experienced we not only encourage, but expect, that employees will take it to management where the situation will be addressed and ensure that it does not happen again. As you know, our business supplies swimming pool products throughout the United States. Because of the business that we are in, we do have very busy periods and very slow periods. During those slow times we lay off staff because we do not have enough work to keep everyone busy. We hope that laid off employees will return when our next busy season starts. Contrary to sinking, we continue to be a profitable company that is improving our benefits to employees and will be paying out a significant Employee Investment Plan bonus in the coming weeks. We do all we can to be honest with employees and convey the state of the company. If there is something you are concerned about, please speak to a manager. We would like all employees to discuss their constructive criticism and concerns with their direct manager or other manager in the company. While we can’t implement all suggestions made, we do consider all of them and implement the ones that we believe will have a positive impact. Again, thank you for your comments. And thank you for being a part of our company.
