As a visiting agency driver from another depot I had the misfortune to deliver into the Alfreton depot last night. I explaned to the gateman it was the first time I had visited the site and asked about the procedure. I then followed his directions but fell foul of a shunter who abused me for opening the rear doos on my trailer before reversing on the bay. I let that go even though he was rude, abusive and agressive, and threatened me with being banned fron site. When it came time to pull off the bay I had to park up opposite to collect my paperwork and was unable to turn left due to a shunter waiting to put a trailer on my bay. I therefore turned left and needed to blind side into the parking area. Again as I positioned for the manoever i was approached by the same guy who once again was abusive,arrogant , and agressive and definatly not impressed when i decided enough was enough and I wasnt taking it again. He was not interested in my defence that it was my first time on site and was of the impression that i should know all their "rules". I pointed out that I did ask but can't have been given all the information. Perhaps their policy should be to educate not abuse. Needless to say I won't be back. I haven't needed NFT in my 40 years of lorry driving and doubt I'll miss them.
