Pros

The people are what really make Matter, Matter. The designers are incredibly talented, dedicated, and go above and beyond on every project or task. The management team was supportive and flexible with my chronic illness, and when I had to take time off to handle family affairs, they went out of their way to ensure that I didn't have to worry about a thing. The team is very close-knit and highly-collaborative with a work hard, play hard, mentality.

Cons

There is a certain level of discipline and self-start initiative required. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. As someone who doesn't like being micro-managed, I appreciated that I was given adequate space to create, adapt, and even help shape processes that impacted the team. However, designers, specifically at the junior level, need more oversight from seniors to help strengthen their skill set in design, presentation, and communication. Lastly, Project Managers could use more support in bolstering the importance of their role within the organization - sometimes it felt like an afterthought.

Pros

My experience is that this is a company that cares about it's people - their growth and development, happiness and making sure they have a voice. Not all places walk the talk like this place does and the tone is set by the founder. People are talented, fun and kind. Love the daily 4pm "Tea Time" where all work stops, devices down, and people go to the protected interior garden for a break and connect for 30 minutes. MATTER is clear on who they are and where they are going, the work is stellar, with a combination of innovative start up and Fortune 500 product and service design.

Cons

Good problems - things that come with growing pains: lots of big work, big clients and growth. Sometimes this results in uneven allocation of resources for discreet periods of time. If you are wondering where the negative reviews are coming from, there was a bad apple that had an ax to grind because of poor performance and ethical issues.
