Pros
- Lots of high level tasks even for entry level staff (due to shortage of personnel) - Great opportunities to travel (if you are close to those in power) - Collegial and friendly staff - Great work-life balance - Flexibility for new mothers - Nice physical space. - Mission of the organization is admirable.
Cons
- TERRIBLE management. I felt like the topmost level of management often showed up at work just a few times every week (that too, for a few hours!). - Favoritism: Proximity to power lands you promotions. The system is not merit based. - Money is not well accounted for. Poor accounting standards. Senior staff get massive pay raises when the organization is suffering financially. Likely conflicts of interest, because senior management decide their salaries. - Finance department is badly run. They hire people, realize that they don'y have money and then fire. - They just laid off ALL the Junior staff!!! Senior management -- who are mostly responsible for the plight of the organization -- still have their jobs. Not just that, they enjoy FAT SALARIES for abysmal performance. Junior staff have paid for the mismanagement among senior management (senior management have not even taken a pay cut.) Worst of all, they are unwilling to diagnose the problem and admit to mismanagement. - I doubt the organization will ever recover. they have just laid off all their junior staff, including the most productive ones. One wonders whether the senior staff are holding on to really try and save the organization (likely too late), or to continue enjoying the high salaries! The above reflect my personal opinion. Sadly, it is widely shared among other staff I have spoken to.
