Pros

The school has a lot of money to send you on professional development and training for instruction and curriculum.

Cons

The hours are terrible: 7:30 am-5:00 pm for teachers and draconian for students: 8:00 am -4:30 pm. They have since changed dismissal time to 4:10 pm but it is still a developmentally inappropriate length of time for children to be in school. Teachers are forced to use a specific behavior policy and curriculum and if students do not comply to developmentally inappropriate standards the teacher's effectiveness is called into question. Teacher evaluations are inconsistent and often contradictory. Despite seemingly having a common evaluation process and salary scale in practice salaries are negotiable and often "highly effective ratings" are given to teachers who do not complain. Managements asks for open and honest feedback with a core value of "listening to lead" but in practice they fire or shut down staff who give honest and open feedback. Students are often put in a padded room for minor behavior issues. Maternity and family leave policy is terrible. The school promotes an "innovative career pipeline" but this rarely plays out in the classroom. Coaching is not available within the school.

Pros

Pay is fair if you work there for some years. Good benefits. Great Teachers Support amongst teams

Cons

EXTREMELY HIGH TURNOVER! Out of touch with the community. Poor leadership support. Leadership lacks understanding of how to coach certain students that need support. They judge your “anonymous” surveys The Principal is allowed to create their own policies which are not in the handbook. The elementary Principal is in place due to nepotism and operates on their own terms. Leadership cannot demonstrate how to teach a lesson to classes yet they can grade you. The elementary principal will undermine your knowledge of culture. Leadership shuns advocacy yet promotes it in training. Teammates are timid to speak up because of witness retaliation. SPED leadership practices unsafe solutions. The Dean has no clue what they’re doing. You can help build up their establishment and they will disregard you without blinking once you speak up or disagree with something that’s wrong.
