Pros

・The students where the best part; they where kind, sweet, and smart. ・Seeing real growth happen in real time; students making visible progress was always exciting. ・The work is meaningful when you build connections with the kids.

Cons

・The pace is intense and you are penalized if you spend more than one minute talking to a student, even when said students are making good progress even with longer check ins. ・It was all about tests and monitoring; obviously that's important, but no kid is going to do well when they aren't connected with whomever is giving them an assessment. ・Very little actual coaching or follow-up with managers; they just send you the list of everything you're doing wrong and tell you little about how to improve. ・Management is unfair to tutors; despite ALL of my students doing amazingly and improving SO SO SO much, they were still only about how I was taking too long in the intro and not saying their script verbatim. ・If you genuinely care about students, this isn't the place.

Pros

The people are really friendly, smart, and hard-working. There's lots of opportunities to prove yourself and grow. The work you do makes an impact in the world of first graders. The work you do is recognized and celebrated.

Cons

Not a place for someone wanting to coast by. Don't expect to work 9 AM to 5 PM.

Pros

-Building meaningful relationships with students -Knowing that you are making a difference every day with your work -Extensive training that ensures you are prepared, including practice sessions with other new tutors -Opportunities to sub for extra income (these can be hard to snag, but they are available) -Work from home and a flexible schedule -Plenty of PTO that you can use anytime

Cons

-The pay is not dependable. You are told you get paid $20/hour, but that means 4 sessions, which may not be back-to-back. So, you could have two students in an hour, only making $10. It's essentially $5/session. -Students may be removed at anytime, which removes them from your income, and there is no guarantee that they will be replaced on your schedule. This is not a job for someone who needs a stable income to depend on, but can be decent part-time pay depending on how many pairings you accept -There are often behavioral challenges that are tricky to navigate in a virtual setting. We are given canned responses when reaching out to a manager for assistance, and there aren't a lot of options for rewards or positive reinforcement since the lessons are so short -The lessons are scripted and really wordy - this can cause children to lose focus and is also just overall challenging to follow -You have to have several windows open at once during a lesson - the lesson space, the script, and data collection -Not many opportunities for advancement for tutors -A full week off for Thanksgiving and two weeks off for Christmas are not paid, and anytime students are out for spring break, fall break, etc. you are not paid -The beginning and end of the school year have minimal students, so you really only have a somewhat steady schedule for 6-7 months out of the year
