Questionable values - Program Manager Glyph Language Services Employee Review

Pros

Amazing colleagues with whom you can share the burden of dealing with higher management!

Cons

High Management creates the worst company culture you imagined possible, including spreading gossip about what a manager said about another. Ask for everything in written, they will lie to your face, saying that was not what they agreed to. Lack of documentation everywhere, would not pass an ISO certification of any kind. When budget is low, you will be required to take unpaid time off. Human Resources is just an extension of the CEO, and could much more to protect employees.

First, we want to thank you for taking the time to write this review. We particularly appreciate the value you see in your former colleagues. You’re right! Glyph is so proud, and we feel so fortunate to be a team of such excellent people. Moreover, feedback is a gift. We need to reflect upon feedback and continuously work on ways to improve the operations of the company. For example, when it comes to lack of documentation, we recognize the deficiency and over the last year we have taken initiatives and made concerted investments to improve this concern via a program of documenting standard operating procedures (“the SOP Project”, groundwork for eventual ISO certification). All members of Glyph staff, including you, will have participated in the SOP Project, an all-hands effort. With respect to the other matters of Glyph culture you mention, we genuinely take them to heart. The one thing we don’t agree about on any level is your startling assertion that Glyph deals dishonestly. That is simply untrue. We understand you to be referring to a proposal you made to avoid repaying a prorated portion of a retention bonus upon resigning before the fulfillment of its term. We cannot help that you are dissatisfied with the outcome of that discussion but there was never an agreement other than the one you and Glyph originally signed. Apart from that, we are indeed sorry that you didn’t have a great experience during your time at Glyph; however, we thank you sincerely for your good work and we very much wish you well in your future.

Pros

Working at Glyph was a very good experience for me: as a fully remote employee, I was very pleasantly surprised by the strong relationships I built with the rest of the project management team. There are no weak links in this company; the leadership is strong, things are moving in the right direction, the head of HR is a really compassionate guy (how rare is that?!), the senior team are seriously impressive, and the work is varied and interesting. It's a pretty small company but they will do their best to accommodate you in terms of benefits: the benefits are great considering the company's size. Most importantly, any PM who starts there will be able to hit the ground running, as they have a very effective, simple and well-established system of tracking and managing all their projects. I would strongly recommend Glyph as both an employer for PMs starting out on the vendor side of the industry, or for PMs who want to switch vendors. I will miss them all!

Cons

It won't be great for you if you don't like high expectations. Glyph's aim is to differentiate itself from its competitors on quality, and they are committed to that. You can't goof off! Also, for the moment, no matter where you are in the US, it works best if you stick to Pacific hours. That might be logistically awkward for some people.
