Pros
You could potentially be placed in a very rewarding division/violation (I.E. Crimes Against Children or Healthcare fraud). Get SOME experience with the Federal justice system.
Cons
The OST position is a dead-end. It is a remedial job that does not give enough experience to career change to a more significant position in the Bureau (even though it was marketed as a way to promote/grow). You will spend more than half your working hours doing nothing. There were many highly-skilled and motivated people that could've become great Agents or Analysts, but departed due to being stuck in the OST position, mostly caused by administrative issues, executive issues, ridiculous policies, and "business practices". Here is the extent of your "formal duties" as an OST: 1) Mail clerk. (You receive the FedEx mail and give it to other people.) 2) Visitor escort. (You stand there awkwardly while someone fixes the building, and you're not even armed so they could really just do what they wanted anyway). 3) File Maintenance. (You put files in a cabinet somewhere maybe like twice a week.) 4) General administrative support. (You ask people to correctly put in their hours worked in WebTa every two weeks.) The position should be eliminated completely.
