Pros

The other employees were great to work with. The regional director was very friendly and always willing to help. The days can be exhausting but the kids have a fantastic time so it's worth it.

Cons

A lot of the material is way too advanced especially for the youngest group of campers. There are a number of activities that require fine motor skills that a 6 year old just hasn't developed yet so what ends up happening is the teacher builds 14 of that project. Training was not very helpful to me at all. I was completely lost until I saw my first week of camp in action. Then it all made sense. They do a lot of things "The DS Way" and I sometimes felt like even the slightest variance from it was discouraged. Site directors are also full time teachers. That doesn't give us much time to do the actual directing part. Some of the sites are not well suited for a camp. Two classes can be in one large room creating noise problems while you're trying to teach.

Pros

I was a freshman in college, and this experience really pushed me out of my comfort zone to lead the site, coordinate with staff, parents, and learn to manage a classroom.

Cons

I believe I just needed a bit more guidance before walking into being a site leader and teacher, I had a difficult time managing the classroom and keeping up the energy during recess and lunch. However, my colleagues and supervisor were supportive and I learned a lot.

Pros

Good training Decent compensation for level of work

Cons

Low resources, only given enough for each child and doesn’t account for damaged or defective components.
