Pros

A paycheck (sometimes) You get half days on Fridays When CEU's happen (once every other month), there's free food usually.

Cons

This is a pretty non exhaustive list of the bull that this "company" does on a daily basis. 1. Admin avoids paying subcontractors for as long as possible to save a few bucks. 2. They'll promise a pay raise to new/potential hires after working for a period of time, but they DO not follow through (has happened to ~50% of people I've worked with here) 3. Expect to work on weekends to finish projects and not get paid for it. 4. One of the owners is a megalomaniac who micromanages and makes employees do tasks not relevant to their jobs. 5. Ethically questionable business practices. 6. Owners take pride in charging the government exorbitant amounts of money for shoddy work. 7. More administration than designers, engineers, and construction workers combined. 8. One owner rents/leases houses across the country and sets up "offices" in other cities to get preferences on government contracts. 9. Extreme office politics plagues real innovation. 10. Many employees don't really have a clue what they're doing. 11. High turnover due to insane boss On top of all that, it's morally taxing working for company shouldn't really be in business.

BES Design-Build Response

We are saddened that your experience with us wasn't what you anticipated and appreciate the thought you have given in providing this feedback. Let me say that our employees are ALWAYS paid on time, and for all hours worked, and that we are committed to working with the highest morals and ethics! If you have a specific issue regarding pay or our work practices, please reach out to HR@besdesignbuild.com to address. Our professional staff is made up of mostly exempt level employees some of who do, on occasion, work after hours or on weekends to meet deadlines. However, we pride ourselves in keeping as close to a 40-hour workweek as possible so our employees have a good work-life balance. For employees are eligible for overtime pay, they ARE paid based on timesheets they personally sign confirming their hours which are verified by our Payroll Department. Our turnover is actually in line with the construction industry as a whole and runs at about 20% annually. This includes field hourly hires who are hired for one job only which makes this number as high as it is. Our employee tenure of our office personnel is running at about 10% annually currently. Does our leadership have high expectations? Do our partners to get in the middle of projects to ensure they stay on time and on budget? Absolutely! Our partners do not sit back and hope it all works out. They are in the mix every day; developing employees, meeting clients and staying in front of any potential issues so we can continue to be successful. We thank you for your time with us, and do hope you will be able to look back one day and find there was a great opportunity for you here and that you developed some great professional relationships.

Pros

Joe Banach. Half day Friday's. Decent benefits. Huge growth potential.

Cons

Walt Bolton. Rude, unprofessional, believes in the mantra that "The beatings shall continue until morale improves." Does not pay subcontractors or vendors on time. Micromanages everyone to the nth degree. No autonomy to allow anyone to make decisions. Due to high turnover, with Walt being the common denominator, projects are constantly being reassigned, thus causing them to be late and over budget. Huge disconnect between estimating and what it costs to actually perform the project. Personnel get assigned multiple tasks that takes away from their real job. Empathy must be felt for the employees who manage to stay or decide not to resign on their own accord. No appreciation is ever shown for ones efforts. Everything is a priority and it becomes organized chaos.
