Pros

I had fabulous coworkers at Amy's—professional, competent, caring. Some of the benefits are generous. I was able to put my partner on health insurance, and the health insurance itself was very good. Work flex program allows employees to work from anywhere. Small severance package after termination.

Cons

Top-heavy leadership structure doesn't care about what people on the bottom of the hierarchy do. While my coworkers and direct manager always expressed appreciation for my work, leadership never did. In my experience, proofreading was treated as a nice-to-have, not a necessary and important part of the production process. Proofreaders are the last defense against wrong information, bad copy, or off-brand statements. Yet, at Amy's they are micromanaged and undervalued. There is no sense of job security. In almost four years, I saw many people get fired without warning, which leaves the impression that people are disposable. Of course, the official company line will have you believe that this family-run business cares deeply about its workforce. Not in my experience. They like to emphasize that they are different from large corporations. However, if you behave like a corporation, does it really matter what you call yourself? It's really too bad because they have the right idea in many ways—the food is delicious, their support of organic farming laudable, and pay, benefits, and working conditions are good (if average) overall.

Pros

It's a job... they will hire people without any relevant degrees or experience for supervisory level roles.

Cons

The pay for management roles in a high cost of living area is lower than in Arkansas. They cannot attract any new talent and keep promoting the same handful of tired under-qualified, overworked, and under-educated people for higher and higher roles. It is a joke. They basically merged 2 departments and eliminated a large number of jobs last year. Everyone does 2-3 jobs now for the same pay. Oh..wait, they gave people a 50 cent per hour raise,,,what a joke! They ordered quality department leadership to all work in this small room, 4 people in one 4x10 room, in a filthy office with dirt and dust falling constantly from the ceiling vents. If anyone complained they were written up. They have not been able to hire a quality manager in a year, saying that nobody wants to work anymore. Aha...nobody wants to work at Amy's anymore for lower than market rate pay and horrible working conditions,
