Pros

Work-life balance and a generous paid vacation allotment - also the ability to purchase up to an additional 5 days of vacation each year during open enrollment which is deducted bi-weekly throughout the year at your old rate of pay.

Cons

It's not necessarily what you know that advances you in the organization, but who you know. There is also a NY mentality in Staff Groups and most of the higher level jobs are either sitting in NY or eventually pulled back into NY with really no thought given to it. The performance management process is also a joke and has been for several years. Ken Chenault believes in a "bell curve" and often employees are shifted down in rating (impacting bonus and long term incentive) just because enough lower ratings haven't been awarded in a dept. Leaders also don't know how to deliver messages nevermind all of the leadership training and coaching focus in the organization (which has now been eliminated with the recent 10% reduction in force).

Pros

They have fantastic pay for the position you're in, and they teach you interesting and engaging utility of modern technology mixed with legacy fundamentals. I've learned quite a bit while AmEx while getting paid more than fairly - I'd recommend a stretch here to whomever may be reading this!

Cons

The Company is huge, and at times it may take more than a little time to get recognized for your abilities and the growth you've had. There's a reason there is a "only way up is out" reputation exists for some enterprise companies...
