    Pros

Team environment, great management, social activities and conferences were fun and relative. Everyone was willing to help and you got to know your colleagues across the country.

    Cons

Long hours, did not get paid overtime or get time in lieu for working beyond regular hours. Some coordinators were not as busy as others so there was inequality.

I worked at Empire Life full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Wonderful employees. Work and achievements are recognized by coworkers. All of the various departments work well together.

    Cons

A lot of management have been in the industry a long time, come from the insurance world "back in the day", and have kept the same mindset. Doing things how they've always been done in the past, not recognizing the need to innovate and adapt to the way doing business has changed. Far behind the times in every aspect of the business. Nearly unattainable workloads.

    Advice to Management

Catch-up with technology and innovation at a much faster rate, because competitors are already light-years ahead when it comes to offerings and member experience, and are still continuing to innovate. You can't always be last to roll out something innovative, because by that point you are already obsolete. There is always a better way to do something. Utilize other skills employees may possess which do not apply to their role; offer them a chance to use those skills by having them assist on projects in other areas where those additional skills would be of value to them.

I worked at Empire Life full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Work hours that are flexible, coffee shop, loan program (fitness equip, computer etc), long time employees get an annual luncheon joined by retired staff once a year

    Cons

Too top heavy and most of the biggies aren’t at Kingston office. Cliques, got rid of big Manager one at one time but biggie just put another one in place. Silos in divisions and cliques in Manager level with there favoriteds can make it not a nice place to spend 8 hours.

    Advice to Management

Communicate. Don’t let rumour mill do the job. Can’t just train on the new stuff people retire then there is no one to service client policies correctly if policy bought more than 10 years ago. Get rid of your Manager cliques again
