    Pros

    Great co-workers
    Good training (especially trips away!)

    Cons

Management higher up can be obnoxious and clueless
Old business! - need to keep up with current times

I worked at Ellis Brigham part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Like-minded people
    Fun customer interaction
    Product knowledge and training

    Cons

    Management
    Pretentious
    Absolutely atrocious pay
    Huge team
    Treatment from seniority

    Advice to Management

Focus on paying your team more - substantially under London Living Wage is diabolical even with commission.
Value your floor staff and your stock team - you treat them like rubbish seeing them only as a means to an end.

I have been working at Ellis Brigham full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - great colleagues with a lot of outdoor experience
-the shop is much better organised than others like S&R or Cotswold.
-chance to meet some of the best UK professional climbers like Dave MacLeod, Matt Helliker and many others
    -good regular product training

    Cons

-low payment. especially for how much outdoor knowledge and experience is required
    - supervisors only get 40p extra with no commission. In the end it works out less so you take more responsibility for less money
-even though there is a commission based on sales, it is very low - 0.5%
-some of the management members are clueless
-at times the shop is understaffed
-staff discount and deals are pretty bad and management doesn't allow pro deals from most of the brands. Pretty crappy considering most of us are outdoor people in need of equipment.
-staff quits constantly because all the above.

    Advice to Management

stop being cheap scums and value your staff. Even Mc and Tesco pay better.

Thanks for the review - the comments especially the 'cons' are useful to us in improving things and we will work harder to improve the pay and training side wherever possible

I worked at Ellis Brigham (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great staff: likeminded group of outdoor enthusiasts who are on the whole very knowledgeable and professional
    - Great as a part time job to fit around studies etc...

    Cons

    - Poorly paid
    - Poorly run at the senior level, even shop managers showed little respect for the owners

    Advice to Management

    - Increase salary according to experience. Loads of great sales staff who have been around for years and give much better service than new people who stick around for a couple of months, but this isn't recocgnised
    - Increase staff discount. This would encourage staff to buy more stuff, and if they've used it then they can sell it speaking from personal experience. If not an increase in discount, maybe some kind of rental scheme where you can borrow gear for trips away

I worked at Ellis Brigham part-time

    Pros

Really friendly staff and management! They were easy to approach of you needed any help
Laid back interview, the management made you feel at ease
Good amount of hours if you want extra

    Cons

The only downside I really had was due to the time I applied I was let go within a matter of weeks because the store wasn't as busy as expected but the management was very considerate and told me to apply in the winter and they'd hire me again

    Pros

Great people to work with, sharing same passion, great training, get to try some products, work trips ...

    Cons

Bad salary. The amount of knowledge you share with a customers apparently seems like nothing to the management.

    Advice to Management

You should appreciate your staff a little bit more for their knowledge, passion and great customer service.
