Great place to build a career

    Pros

I joined Edward Jones in July, so far they have provided a terrific training plan and team spirit. This is the place to be if you are willing to do the work and commit yourself to building a lifelong career.

    Cons

There is only a base salary and the rest of your earning is based on commission . You need to have another income stream in your family to survive the first year.

    Pros

Edward Jones would be a great place for ambitious, sociable people to work

    Cons

FA salaries are 100% commission based after 5 years. That's typical of the industry but drives out people who are risk averse or less aggressive or sole breadwinners. Too conservative in terms of holiday leave, etc.--people should be allowed to make their own schedules as long as they find clients

    Pros

They allowed me to fail. I was given the freedom to prospect where ever I wanted despite past challenges. Excellent sales training. The partnership structure is endearing.

    Cons

More guidance may have been beneficial. I did not meet their initial prospecting quota. The opportunity was ultimately not compatible with my career aspirations.

A great place to work if you're ready to work

    Pros

The people here are genuinely kind and want you to succeed (it's mutually beneficial that you do). The work environment is generally relaxed but as its a serious industry, there are strict guidelines and management has high expectations. You have the potential to make as much money as you want or to fizzle out before you really begin. This means you have to have tenacity and a high work ethic. I have nothing but good things to say about EJ and everyone I met there.

    Cons

Its a serious industry, and EJ has high expectations for their employees. If you want to be in a relaxed, slow paced, tranquil career, this is probably not the right choice for you. People are literally trusting you with their life's work in some cases, so be prepared for stressful, uncontrollable situations. EJ is there to help you stay on track and comply with regulations, but they're not going to do your work for you. Get ready for rejection, high demands, and challenging days (which is in any finance job).

    Poorly paid, dated training program

    May 24, 2021 - Financial Advisor Trainee

    Business Outlook

    Pros

If you can make it through the training program and first few years, you'll have a lot of independence and autonomy.

    Cons

The training program is dated, relying mostly on the old-school method of knocking door-to-door. In the modern age, there are whole communities that block solicitors and most people don't take kindly to strangers at their doorstep. It's a dying method, yet they don't provide much training or tools to support other prospecting methods. You are very much on your own, thrown to the wolves - sink or swim - and not fairly compensated. And you are essentially a glorified salesperson.
