I worked at ELS Educational Services full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Many students are engaged in learning. Enjoyable to be in the classroom.

    Cons

Curriculum is outdated: teaching business professionals with cassette tapes? Management treat staff inconsistently and regularly interact with "favourites". Management are interested in numbers and money solely. Regularly promote students who have not achieved the next level in order to keep students in the school and make more money off of them. Teachers are expected to set rules in the class, yet they don't allow...

    Advice to Management

Have some training on how to work with employees. Learn the labour laws and ensure they are applied. Avoid letting everyone know who your favourites are and treat staff equally. Stop gossiping about employees to other employees. Provide learning and growth opportunities for staff.

    Pros

Benefits are good for a Language School

    Cons

Low pay, disconnected, over-stressed, untrained management

    Advice to Management

Understand that you and your administrative staff are less important than the product your selling - your teachers. Value teachers by paying them fairly and create an environment that nurtures a career worth keeping.

    Pros

Vacation days - Thumbs up! Nothing else.

    Cons

"Perhaps the less we have, the more we are required to brag" - Fine quotes for the people in operations. Focus on what really matters - Teacher! Pay them well, treat them well. Worst Admissions team - Outdated admission process. Focus on students, bring them to LC, that's where the money is! Sashing around doesn't help.

    Advice to Management

Company needs a good leader from OUTSIDE.

    Cons

This is the Walmart of education. They advertise an impossible model, charge their students a fortune, and pay their teachers nothing. Garbage company

    Advice to Management

Look in your soul and ask yourself: " Am I a real educator, or just a scummy businessman?" Dean knows what I'm talking about.

    Pros

The local personnel are wonderful overall and the students are absolutely wonderful. You'll have a fantastic opportunity to meet many people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

    Cons

Management is detached and the corporate structure is severely lacking. Hours fluctuate drastically asks the company has absolutely no loyalty to its instructors or staff regardless of longevity. Furthermore, they are so desperate to keep the census us, that students are manipulated into classes they shouldn't be in, or held back for extra time/allowed to fail simply to keep the money flowing. Conversely, if the agency...

    Advice to Management

Look to the long term and don't sacrifice your reputation so easily. Remember to value the people who are the backbone of your company. Furthermore, it is ILLEGAL to make your teachers work for free during those mandatory unpaid meetings. It doesn't matter if you buy them $5 lunches, so stop!

I have been working at ELS Educational Services full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits half schedule on Fridays Tuition reimbursement (up to 4,000 a year)

    Cons

Your job depends on enrollment numbers. If the numbers are low, administration (academic director and even center director) are made to teach the classes instead since this is a part of their job description and included in their salary. The number of students determine the hours that the higher ups will allow the director to fit instructor into. It’s ridiculous. It’s a company. Not a school. They care about the...
