    Pros

young employees, fun company, great kitchen and supplies, coffee shop inside building, great insurance, accepts applications from different countries, diverse employees, pays all costs to allocate employees to Vancouver

    Cons

Nothing special, artists sometimes have to do over time working which is normal for this industry

    Advice to Management

keep up doing what you are doing

I worked at Double Negative full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

some really good projects hapenning there.

    Cons

They imported a lot of people from London, and with that, an awful mentality. A lot of bullying, expected unpaid OT, a lot of hierarchy and condescending supervisors. They treat senior people like juniors - everyone is just an "artist", tasks are assigned randomly. Project scheduling is a mess. Too many outdated Dneg tools, really bad if you're planning to move around other studios. Also the pay is lower than most places. Very unpleasant overall, worst place I worked at in Vancouver.

    Advice to Management

If you open a studio in Canada, don't try to make it like London. Don't forget you're competing with other better studios in Canada, people have the choice to go somewhere better and they will.

I have been working at Double Negative full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

People around are pretty much friendly and helpful

    Cons

    * If you are thinking of moving on but have little to no experience, you can forget all about it.
    * Verbally they mentioned that they will move you, but after a few months, one of the update given - the dept currently has no seats to move you in (yet they keep hiring for new people)
    * Even if you do get the chance to move on, the title of your position has not been changed and it will still reflects you as the old/ current title that you had

    Advice to Management

With so much talk about training and stuff, nothing/ no one is really getting training. Do something about this, please

I have been working at Double Negative full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've been working full time at Dneg Vancouver for 2 years and a half (still counting) and joined the company shortly after the moved here. I've seen the company growing and getting better and better. As an animator, I'm having a lots of fun. People are nice and our head of animation is fantastic, the shows are getting more exciting projects to work on. We always have a good time in dailies and joke around too.

    Cons

Overtime are expected when working on VFX. It sucks but at least we are paid!

    Advice to Management

Don't wait for last minute to ask for OT

I worked at Double Negative full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Some good projects
    Building is nice

    Cons

    lower pay than average
pipeline is ancient, farm is too small. Rendering in Clarisse is a mess.
Way too many old in-house tools, only good if you're planning to stay for a very long time. Not sure who Dneg is for: most people get given templates/tools from the London office. Juniors don't learn anything, and some seniors like me get annoyed - Why would I want to press buttons? Also the setups are far from good, they don't know who should create the tools and who should use them.
Tasks are often assigned randomly. A general bad atmosphere in the office: people don't talk, dailies are very quiet and serious, they really know how to make you feel like you're nothing, you should stay in your place and shut up. A serious attitude problem overall: no point reporting bugs, they'll probably tell you that's the way it is at Dneg, we're not changing it, it's always been this way.
Poor communication overall : no schedule, very few meetings, no one seem to be in charge. coordinators do nothing except bully you at the last minute when they want to show something to the client: zero forward thinking, no clear goals or deadlines...

    Advice to Management

Drop all the dneg tools and create a new simple pipeline from scratch, that will save everyone a lot of time.
