I have been working at Dollar General full-time

    Pros

Great opportunity as a beginner job, especially if you have a friendly team. Hard work is recognized.

    Cons

Few hours at one location (you need to branch out to other stores to get more hours). Upper management is demanding on store managers, making stressful work environments. The materials at your disposal are cheap and ineffective.

    Advice to Management

Be more liberal with hours for each store. There never seems to be enough time in the day, so the SM has to step in. Please update your terminal systems (especially printers). They are very prone to falling apart.

I worked at Dollar General part-time

    Pros

Fun job, wasn't always fast paced, but also wasn't always slow. Nice manager and hours, enjoyed closing the store and handling the money.

    Cons

Some coworkers were incompetent and had to pick up slack often, asked numerous times to work off the clock.

    Advice to Management

Never had a problem with management, can't think of anything to say.

I have been working at Dollar General full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible Schedule depending on Department. Autonomy. . Improved dress code company wide, these small changes are adding up but the company needs to do more to make this place next level. DG has the potential to rock (Dollar Google).. and I slowly see this company changing, progressively. Props for the small changes, keep them coming!

If you work hard, you get noticed, you can switch groups after a year if you feel you're not the right fit. Everyone is pretty nice here.

    Cons

The pay scale has room for improvement. Even though we are a low cost, it is very difficult to operate with headcounts well below industry standards. The company is aligned more Departmental, your experience will depend on what type of department head you have.

    Advice to Management

Bump up the SSC staff with a one-time cost of living raise for Nashville. We cannot retain the best or hire the best due to our low salary and unwillingness to get the future's next best and brightest. I love DG but things need to continue to progress forward in a more liberal manner.
