Pros

You have space to improve your skillset in a specific area Good work-life balance Good practices on the codebase.

Cons

You get penalized in performance review if you try to fill a role that you weren't hired for and fail. Have to fight with leadership about compensations, even when promises were made. CEO is shady and plays "games" instead of being straight forward. an example is the CEO keeps telling employees to email "hr" or "finance" but he is all of them and uses this "mask" to avoid being seen as harsh. Too many last-minute deadlines Latest product is a demo theater that doesn't work No retirement benefits

Dysfunctional place

Pros

I have found that the people I have worked with on a day-to-day basis have been pretty alright. However - as I will expound under Cons - the management has made it impossible to continue working here.

Cons

Workplace politics and micromanagement were the norms — be prepared to be thrown into battle at this workplace. The CEO of this company is by far the worst that I've ever had the displeasure of working for who hates accepting suggestions or admitting even little critiques, and often prefers blaming and belittling other employees. He takes everything personally and seems to enjoy making his employees feel small and insignificant. This is on top of his generally unprofessional behavior, and the kind of vindictive behavior I didn’t expect to see after middle school, which demoralizes the team and hurts productivity. Apart from day-to-day assignments, no one has any sense of teamwork or any larger strategy or vision. Praise, guidance, and interpersonal engagement — hallmarks of good management — are in short supply, while mistakes are seized upon as opportunities for humiliation in front of other coworkers. Those who truly work hard are overlooked and given excuses as to why they are not able to be promoted. The place could have potential, however, due to management, the place is pretty much falling apart.

Pros

Interesting technical space, brilliant co-workers & reasonable engineering autonomy.

Cons

Instead of beating a dead horse, read the other reviews... they are accurate. In summary, most of the stated cons can be attributed to the style of management at Data Theorem, which highly involves exercising power through force rather than exercising power through inspiration. True leadership inspires people to do their best work. If you aspire to join this company, you better have a clear personal agenda to keep you focused. Otherwise, you will drown in the myriad of dysfunctional and deceitful practices.
