    I worked at Cymer full-time

    Pros

The company is located in San Diego

    Cons

Multiple people in upper management come from low tech background such as automotive industry. They are not capable of understanding the technology and drive innovation. Primitive projects they are able to understand get assigned large numbers of people. Truly complicated projects get suffocated and end up being delayed or picked up by ASML. Swearing and yelling at people is a norm. Too many managers. Every engineers has 5 managers he has to report his results to. Group leads, team leads, project managers, project cluster managers, and so on. Huge turnover. Most of the truly talented people get driven out resulting in knowledge gaps. No recognition of success. Since managers are not capable of understanding the technology the credit goes to people reporting good results, not to people who actually did the work. Shoot the messenger mentality results in people hiding anything that can displease the upper management. Unprofessional, disrespectful, and caustic people are put in project leadership roles. Verbal abuse and insults even in public are a norm. Outdated, underequipped facilities.

I have been working at Cymer full-time

    Pros

Competitive pay when you join, and good benefits.

    Cons

There is a Culture of Pointing Finger & dividing while pretending they was to unify is simply insulting. People are "empowered" to take action, what they don't say is, that you are empowered to do, exactly what you are told, or else you will get in trouble somehow if you push back and think. Also most of the Upper management have no idea what it takes to get things done and make commitments on a fly and make unachievable requests, bit tittles, zero understanding, they push their work on their teams, provide no additional resources, and treat us like they do us a favor by employing us. This causes people to quit all the time, go on stress leaves, start experiencing visible stress in all its forms, or simply hate each day when going to work.

    I worked at Cymer

    Pros

Beautiful environment great technology and nice people to work. It is a great place to work you will meet some highly educated people with lots of technical background.

    Cons

You are stuck working with noisy machines everyday. There is a big turn around with the upper management and company lays off people during its low time.

I have been working at Cymer full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Like others have said, leading edge research

    Cons

Upper management and corporate politics are killing the company. Read any management book and they do the opposite. Complete distrust of their employees.

I have been working at Cymer

    Pros

Fast paced exciting environment, cutting edge technology and interesting culture. Lots of potential for growth and learning many skills.

    Cons

Depending on group, a lot of work is needed. This depends on the demand of the group and their employee size. This is a side-effect of mid-sized companies. Upper management can be ineffective at communicating with each other, leading to engineering groups to work on unnecessary stuff.

I have been working at Cymer full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The pay is good for a corporate job. The environment is great if you're a self starter who can finish things quickly and honestly. There are TONS of smart people to learn from, so the experience you gain is top-tier.

    Cons

Upper management has a hard time because the technology is so difficult and changing so rapidly. Very difficult company to apply a traditional upper management scheme to, and it is felt at lower levels.

I worked at Cymer full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

There is a team environment at Cymer, a sense that everyone contributes something of value to the organization. Those who do not contribute do not last long. Hard work is rewarded with pay increases, bonuses and/or stock options.

    Cons

When the belt gets tight (cycle tied to the semi-conductor industry) there can be vast layoffs and departments can become seriously understaffed. The organization seems to be top heavy yet upper management seems to be the last place to take any "hits" during layoffs (which does not make for the best overall work environment).

I worked at Cymer full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

They were great in the early days. Lots of golden handcuffs in the form of stock options. They were all cut out and then in came the Applied folks. Went down hill through the Pascal days.

    Cons

Now they are just another semi place with way to many mid and upper management. They need to be spoon feed information instead of getting in there and working the issues. Spent more time doing weekly reports than working. They do not implement the best designs, only the ones that barely meet spec and change as little as possible. Their lasers could be much better if they wanted to do the engineering and let the engineers do the work. They waste a lot of material.
