I have been working at Crate and Barrel

    Pros

Great product, can be a great atmosphere to work in. Customers were for the most part pleasant to work with. The company was built on an idea of valuing the people who work for them and the products they sell. It went away from that for a while, but has been slowly coming back. I would recommend working there in a PT role, but not in management.

    Cons

It's hard to develop into other roles, or be considered for other roles. Associate relation issues don't seem to be taken seriously, any complaints that are made in store or at the regional/area levels seem to be discounted and not valued. The store would rather have someone who creates a toxic work environment than run a bit under staffed. The workload expected is beyond the base pay grade, raises are minimal and hard to get. Salary is $5-$15K below comparable positions at competitors. You're expected to work long hours and even though upper management will tell you not to work off the clock, you do because it's the only way you can try to keep up with the work load.

I have been working at Crate and Barrel full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Colleagues are great, product is good

    Cons

Construction issues at the mall cause issues for customers and staff. Management hides in their offices. Long hours on your feet. Somewhat out of touch with consumer expectations. Low support for employee feedback. Customer service is ridiculously lax with customers. Too many refunds and allowances.

I have been working at Crate and Barrel

    Pros

Great product and reasonable quality of merchandise. Crate provides a decent employee discount and the staff are a great mix of personalities. Management is fairly flexible.

    Cons

As a part-time staff member you are given limited training as well as a very narrow introduction to the company and it's vision. After a few days you are "thrown into the deep end" and expected to perform, or rely on the help of fellow staff members. Management spends a great deal of time in the office, and is not a presence on the sales floor.

I worked at Crate and Barrel part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Great products, 30% discount, 401k

    Cons

No full-time opportunities, just an army of part time employees so they don’t have to provide healthcare. Physically demanding. Not enough ladders. Storage in fire areas. Rodent issue.

I have been working at Crate and Barrel part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Amazing Brand, Great product offering

    Cons

Store leadership is detached from day to day functions in the shop. Communication from management is poor, barely existent. Overall, store staff is unmotivated and lacking in passion.
