    Pros

    Amazing management that cares about all staff, 30% discount (applies to sale items as well), wonderful people, flexible hours, user-friendly schedule website

    Cons

    Nothing. My seasonal part-time position at Crate & Barrel has been wonderful. I wish it could have been a permanent position.

    I have been working at Crate and Barrel

    Pros

    Great product and reasonable quality of merchandise. Crate provides a decent employee discount and the staff are a great mix of personalities. Management is fairly flexible.

    Cons

    As a part-time staff member you are given limited training as well as a very narrow introduction to the company and it's vision. After a few days you are "thrown into the deep end" and expected to perform, or rely on the help of fellow staff members. Management spends a great deal of time in the office, and is not a presence on the sales floor.

    I worked at Crate and Barrel part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Ok employee discount and some nice merchandise

    Cons

    Company is very cheap and does not take care of it's employees. Hourly people are over worked, very few full time jobs with benefits are available and they continue to cut what jobs are available and demote people with title reductions. Management has continued to make these cuts and take what was once a well run, still family feel, paternal business into a place where people are used for profit. There is a divide between the employees from the old days and the new management direction coming in and petty power struggles occur at the store level, people are bullied and targeted as threats who want to rise in the company because the older management is operating in fear based on the number of people they have watched be fired and replaced to date through all the transition and job cuts. One day an hourly employee who takes public transportation to work was injured and required outside medical treatment. No one at the company would take her and at her low hourly pay, that left her to cover an expensive Uber ride both to and from the medical facility. That was likely an entire day's pay for that individual. They speak diversity, yet the play lists they are so proud of in their stores are full of songs that provoke racial tensions and wounds and keep that energy alive in stores all day, every day. The racial divides can be felt and seen and this goes unchecked, with different work standards by sub-category in the stores. They force employees to open credit cards for profit and will fire them if they don't, but share non of the ample credit card profit with the poor hourly workers they pressure into forcing the cards on customers. I was so disappointed by what I saw inside the company. I will never shop Crate & Barrel again and I was a great customer prior to working with them. I invite others to consider shopping else where. The merchandise isn't fresh like it once was, Crate & Barrel was always know for introducing new, now things are kept forever and colors are rarely updated and customers complain because they used to be able to rely on C&B to always change so they could update or replace with new colors but that is more difficult to do now.

    I worked at Crate and Barrel part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    After having worked two years in retail positions that seemed to suck the life out of me, I could not have been more pleased to discover Crate and Barrel. The management was extremely supportive and encouraging, and eager to help you grow and expand your knowledge about product and company policy. Coworkers were close-knit and very much a family type vibe, and you never felt like you were being forced to pressure customers into purchases they didn't want to make. The product generally sells itself, but it's fun stuff to learn about, which makes you that much more effective in your sales position. Management encourages you to ask for time to take training courses, and even attempts to promote from within when possible. I don't know about other states, but in Connecticut they started me out at 10.75 working as a part-time seasonal employee. They were absolutely great about working around my schedule.

    Cons

    Hard to get beyond 29-30 hours a week unless you're at management level. Management did seem to be under a lot of pressure, although I can honestly say they did a great job of not taking it out on the employees.

    Poor work life balance. Discrimination forward older associates. Favoritism for younger associates. Company slowly weeding out older staff. Some bullying.
